Selling on amazon/ebay
    #20948058 - 12/08/14 03:53 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

I make a living by buying goodwill and garage sale merchandise and re selling on amazon. And formerly Ebay. Bring me your entrepreneurial questions regarding selling your stuff on either venue and i will answer to the best of my ability.

this is actually very smart idea, i know quite a few people who collect various little nick nacks from garage sales/swap meets ect (including myself). alot of what I get is very cheap and I could easily turn a profit by selling for even a couple of dollars or more depending on items. I'd love to hear a bit about how to make a succesful go out of selling items on ebay as I have quite a few collectible items i'd assume could bring a pretty penny.

What item do you sell the most? What items are the most profitable? Do you ship your own items?

I cannot answer which items I sell the most since that's my bread and butter. I do however sell items that weigh under 14 oz packed in packaging. Therefore I can ship item with first class mail. I prefer items under 3 oz they are $2 to send. Ideally you want to ind something you can sell for double or better and sell a bunch. I do all of my own shipping. Also in years and years. I have never had to buy packing supplier other than tape. I wrap the shipping label and the customer invoice up the item and it looks pretty professional. I have pics of process

So What can you sell Best stuff.

1Stuff that you sell a lot of.
2stuff that you can double to quadruple or more your money on
3 stuff that weighs less than 14oz
stuff that you know about that you can easily get and sell of.
Stuff ppl NEED and buy lots of.

Rack your brain on those things

Go to thrift stores spend hours looking at prices and searching for them on amazon. ebay and see historical pricing data observe how often they sell how easy to ship item nd how much u can make.

Also you have to know approx what fees and shipping will cost you then overestimate and then calculate making adleast double money AND IT IS A SEMI HOT SELLER! then you are good buy it.

or is higher dollar item that fits in $5 flt rate mailer.

Occasionally I see one and stop there. Usually the people running them are nice enough but generally but think their shit don't stank and there's hundreds of people lined up and many of them pay more they are a little stuffy/horty torty/turn up nose/Pompus types of self absorbed white folk who never really made it gatherings.

The real deals can be had any time but especially when they first open up (first pick if reasonably priced) and when they are at their last day. You come offer 30-100$ per room and cough up the cash and haul the shit you can make some money if you can off load the crap or see a few things that you know will sell for sure. BUT BE CAREFUL! BE READY TO HAUL SHIT AND DEAL WITH IT!

Also The last question.

Yard sales are my favorite. You know if people are wiling to haul all their shit out of their house and sell it, Generally they're desperate. You need to be a shark and smell that blood. You need to be ready to attack mercilessly at any moment. You are in a big ocean and you have yourself and other sharks to feed.

Most importantly You gotta have some Capital. I generally run around with 300-500$ in my pocket ready to buy anything from a dehydrator to a nice snap on tool box to an old honda civic sitting in the drive. You would be surprised the power of coughing up 4 or 5 $100 bills. and doing the Geisha fan with them and offering 4 or 5$ on a car that could bring 1000-2000. Maybe they are frustrated with the damn thing and they see that cash and are like BOING dick up! You gotta be hard and you gotta feel them and you gotta hit them where it hurts and you gotta be able to make threats and walk away. You gotta be ready to offend folks and you gotta know how to not get played. But no matter what you do BE HONEST. Don't lie nd tell bs stories about this and that. You gotta be truthful if you expect them to do the same. You will attract it..

Let me educate you. Every thing you sell that you plan to buy YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE FEES WILL BE. You learn amazons fee structure and do a calculation

How to sell an item
1. What will it cost me?
a. Purchase cost, Shipping cost, Fees cost, Storage cost.

2. How much can I sell it for
a Research amazon learn sales ranks (you can determine how often they sell) Look at completed ebay lisings. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH

3. RESEARCH SOME MORE

4. Can I more than double my money within a reasonable time?
Thats where experience comes into play. That's why you have to start smaller if you are doing this on your own.

5. Do I know someone that does this that can take me under their wing?
SPEND AS MUCH TIME WITH THIS PERSON AS YOU CAN. Pick their brain. Ignore stupid advice they give you. If they're less informed and you can teach them some stuff by asking questions like. How much will the fees cost you (I dunno) Let me look that up on my s-phone (HEY GOOD IDEA) You know, Give people credit for letting you suggest them ideas pat their ego if thats what they need. You need to figure ut what your pal needs to hear to share their secrets.

Most importantly, Do not copy their ideas Come up with your own. Its more healthy and it will enrich you rathr. Also, They might just pull you through a bullet leaving you in a pile of your own traderous blood.

FEES DO NOT MEAN SHIT. They will kill you if you don't have a clue. If you know what they will cost and price accordingly they will NEVER SURPRISE YOU! Ain't that a concept?

Build a reputation for your Amazon and Ebay accounts. This helps tremendously. Quick ways to up your points.

Buy Magic: The Gathering cards from TCGPlayers.com in bulk or buy boxes of magic. Then sell individual cards on ebay, sell uncommons/commons/rares that don't quite pass the $1 mark in bulk in packages.

I almost always sell back for the same value for anything I buy or more. It's a slow process, but it works. Also look up things on Craigslist in your area, bargain to buy low, and then sell things online.

What you describe is wasteful and time consuming.

Just Sell your items and write your descriptions legibly and like a sophisticated person take good pictures and just start from day 1 with integrity and take care of your customers...

I am much more likely to trust someone with 0-10 feedback than some fru fru 300 feedback from $1 listings.

I know a lot of people who are making big money doing this.

I gave it a try one day and in that day I found two unopened printer inks, One picture printer, and a full russian pimsleur course. I think I only spent 40 bucks total and was able to make 200$ back.

I want to get better at it and find a niche tho.
