Cubes are white with holes - Help ID
    #20941614 - 12/07/14 10:58 AM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Hello Shroomery Community!

First-time poster, long-time reader.

I need help ID'ing a contaminant or source of whitening/holes in a patch nearby. The patch was created using Moe's Outdoor Tek and is a combination of B+ and GT brf cakes. The patch has since fruited and the fruits are albino and have holes in them. Any suggestion what might be going on? At first I suspected a lack of FAE since it's between a flowerbed, a tree, and a wall. Your thoughts?

You say those are b+ and golden teacher? I'm no expert but they sure don't look like it.

... It looks like your patch got infested with another species and its fruiting. Those are not cubes.
Though I have no idea what they in fact are.

You know if anyone ever scope Coprinopsis as contaminant mushrooms?  They aren't all C. lagopus, here is a key for this group that seems to work at least part of the time.  If anyone has them well dried (Veil and gills intact) I will scope them.

No idea, I just lump all similar looking Coprinopsis species into the lagopus complex. I don't have that much interest in the Coprinoids. It probably is a different species in subsection Lanatuli. Thanks for the link to that key.

Thanks for your help everyone. After reviewing the links Workman and Byrain provided, it does appear to be Coprinopsis.

Byrain, I can dry and send them to you for scoping if you want to confirm.

Don't get too discouraged though. Inky caps usually have a relatively small effect on yield.
