Any insight into why these fruits are so small guys? *w/PICS*
    #20942848 - 12/07/14 03:31 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

I started this project in late october, its now early december and this is as far as Ive got in terms of fruiting:( My terrarium is the adequate shotgun style chamber with 4 inches of perlite and quarter inch holes on all six sides. I mist above the chamber and let the mist gently settle down on top of the cakes until they glisten, then I fan with a lid for about a minute and a half.

In the near future I wish to attempt a casing technique tantamount to the monotub methods proposed and conducted by others here because of higher yields and a more reassuring outcome in contrast to the PF Tek.

Here is my setup:

Just a basic tote imbued with quarter inch holes for airflow and a lid with translucent plastic in the middle for light provisions:)

This is the first cake I placed into the mansion over 2 1/2 weeks ago as you can see after I dunked it the second time it has developed very small fruits possibly due to low substrate moisture content or perhaps low humidity?

And here is the same cake 2 weeks ago with a fat bastard sprouting on the side which I harvested and dried. The poor pin aborted and I picked it:(

And another cake that has been situated for a while now has finally started fruiting but more small fruits are expected:confused: Could this be a substrate issue as well? Genetics?

These are some recent half pint wide mouth cakes I just birthed today dunked for 12 hours and rolled in organic vermiculite. As in most of my cakes I made with fine grade vermiculite and BRF, the mycelium appears to be thin and somewhat diaphanous, yet still healthy in the long run.:smirk:

I'm hoping and praying to the mushroom spirit that these will pin in under two weeks and all will go as planned and aspired toward. I have got 10 more fully colonized and consolidating jars ready to be birthed on my closet shelf and I will give the mycelium a few more days to establish itself amidst the substrate:wink:

More updates soon and please standby......

Wish me luck fellers and loving vibes and energy to your current/future projects as well!!!!:mushroom2::smile:

Oh Great Spirit, whose breath gives life to all the world, here me, I am small and weak, I need your strength and your wisdom, let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunsets you have painted, make my hands respect the things that you have created and taught my people, make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people, let me learn the lessons you have hidden under every leaf and under every rock...
I seek strength not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy...myself, so that when my life fades, as does the distant horizon, let my spirit come to you, without shame...oh great spirit.

I'm very new to all this, but from what I've read small mushies are generally due to not enough moisture in the substrate or genetics. I'd get a decent Hygrometer and check RH although they don't look very dry to me.

EDIT: Just noticed that the stipe of one of the mushrooms is bluing halfway up the stalk and some of the cakes have what looks to be slight bruising on the mycelium. I've read that can be due to not enough moisture/FAE if you haven't handled it.

MS is generally a crapshoot. I just finished the first flush on about 16 cakes and I've had large fruits and small ones, but mostly small. You can check my results here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20871276/fpart/all
