I finally got enough gypsum to last 40# for 10$ sure beats a couple oz for 2$ at the brew store, I also hear it's important for some edibles as well as cubes, "it's got what shrooms crave"

and the rest of the family minus the coir blocks

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I just use the pellets, but the kind I get don't dissolve very well, so it'd probably be better to powder them, but I don't know if it really matters.

I'd grind that into a full powder. Try checking a local plant nursery for agricultural gypsum. They most often carry it already powdered.

I would trust using that for the grain soak only of it dissolves in water. For bulk substrate materials you are going to want powdered because bulk substrate materials are mixed dry, then hydrated.
Brainstorm!: Maybe you could add your gypsum to your substrate material's hydration water at the correct amount, let the gypsum dissolve, then hydrate your materials with it. Seems like using this route though, you would want to know/have dialed in the EXACT amount of water you would need to bring X amount of materials to field capacity (or 60-75% moisture content ).

That's the exact same bag of gypsum I have. Enough to last the rest of your life most likely lol.
It dissolves into water pretty well. When making grain jars I add a pinch to each jar. I used to add it to the water to dissolve first but found it doesn't really make a difference either way.
I recently made up a batch of fuel pellet sawdust and I added a half a cup of gypsum to 7.5 quarts of water and then boiled it. It worked but it made the water take forever to come to a boil so if you go that route for bulk I recommend waiting until the water is boiling to add the gypsum - and use less gypsum than I did, as a lot of it didn't dissolve. I just washed the undissolved gypsum down the drain when I cleaned the pot.
