Gotta few cases that are too damp.
    #2093511 - 11/11/03 07:26 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

I have 3 cases that are too damp. The mycelium has slowed and almost stopped, but visible in many spots. 2 of the cases have been in the fruiting chamber for about a week. I left one in the incubator, because it seems like it is drying out a little bit with continuing mycelium growth. Any ideas on what to do with a case that is too wet?

Thanks guys

leave the lid off of it in a clean place...like a bleached down rubbermaid...and add no humidity just clean airflow to it...maybe it will dry out some.

Soak up the water with dry toilet paper, or put them in your fruiting chamber with a heat lamp above them.

If you leave the lid off make sure the casing layer doesn't dry out -- it'll dry out first. I'd increase fanning and decrease misting, but don't let the casing dry out. Angryshroom has a good point -- heating it with a lamp could dry it out, but don't get it too hot!

If you leave a lid on it for 6-8 hrs., you can get a lot of condensation off of the lid. I do this ALWAYS w/ my casings. I add a little extra water, but not enough that it stops growth, but enough that it's bad for the pins. When the first pins show, I wipe all that extra moisture off of the lid and the next day it's back. I keep doing that until condensation is at a desireable level. Don't worry, mycelium can take being flooded. Act decisively and thoughtfully and you will be cool.

So do I dab the mycelium with the paper? There is growth but it's stalled.

what I've done with overly wet substrate is remove the colonized portion and add more substrate which is at the correct moisture level.
