Help with ID Please?
    #2093319 - 11/11/03 04:22 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Hello, I found these in some grass around a tree behind my apt in a golf course. There wasn't much grass in that area and was mostly dirt.

Im getting a spore print now but im sure itll take awhile but heres some pics i took.. I was thinking maybe Stuntzii but im not sure

As you can see they grew in clusters, also I noticed the stems turned kinda black after several minutes.

Hopefully someone can help me out?

First off, what's your location? What state?

Uhm... the first two pictures are different species than the ones in the last picture.

I can't really tell anything from the print other than it's not white. The first two mushrooms are *not* stuntzii, the stems are way too thick and the caps are too "chunky." I think you might have some kind of Agaricus.

Not a clue on the mushrooms in the last picture... Did you get a print of them? You say the stem seemed to turn black. Black brusing is typical of Galerina mushrooms, a genus that contains a few deadly species.

Either way, there's a good chance that you could be poisoned if you eat either mushroom. Don't eat them.

On your second mushroom, I can't see nearly enough in your photo to even try to ID them. Mostly you need more light.

For the first ones, I was waiting for your spore print. We also need a bit more description.

How big are they? There are no size cues in your photos.
Try cutting one in half vertically. Are the gills attached to the stem for free from it?
Is there a ring on the smallest specimens?
Are any parts slimy or sticky?
Do they have a distinctive odor?
Based on the photo of your spore print, I would call it some sort of pale brown or tan color. Is it possibly pinkish? Make sure you check using a white light, not an incandescent light bulb. Sunlight is the best light for examining colors.

Let us know.

Happy mushrooming!
