Who pays taxes?
    #2093474 - 11/11/03 07:11 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Just in case you've forgotten, here are some statistics for who paid what taxes in 2001. The figures for 2002 should be available soon and I'll bet that you'll find even more of the burden on the higher income Americans. Look at this folks. The top 25% of income earners in this country are paying 83% of the taxes. For those of you who went to government schools, that means that the bottom 75% of income earners in America are only paying 17.1% of the income taxes.

Now .. the next time you hear some leftist ranting about "tax cuts for the rich" perhaps you'll see things a bit differently.

Percentiles Ranked by AGI
AGI Threshold on Percentiles
Percentage of Federal Personal Income Tax Paid

Top 1%
$292,913
33.89

Top 5%
$127,904
53.25

Top 10%
$92,754
64.89

Top 25%
$56,085
82.90

Top 50%
$28,528
96.03

Bottom 50%
<$28,528
3.97

Note: AGI is Adjusted Gross Income

Considering the amount of influence they have in Washington, I don't feel all that bad about that.

Silversoul is right.

What the hell kind of conclusion am I supposed to come to from your statistic? Of course the top 25% pay 75% of the taxes. They have most of the money!

It would be impossible for the bottom 75% of wealth holders to pay 75% of the taxes cuz that would be more than 100% of what they own!

The point of your post reads like something I saw on the Ruch Limbaugh website. Not suprising.

This whole tax thing if so passe...the government should own profit generating entities, like utilities(as is the case in western europe and Canada, mostly)...banks should be on the short list of appropriate government owned, profit generating (for the collective) entities.

Abe Lincoln started issuing public currency after he was unable to secure loans from the ruling elite of the times(that was the greenback). That's how he financed the war.

Can you belive it? Socialist money creation kept the USA united!

Of course after national security was asured, the elite were quick to reign in their favorite scam to fuck over the masses. They got their money creation powers back mostly...and here we still are. With democracy effectively shut out of the heart of the economic system. Money creation.

Why is there a whole industry set up to convince people to relegate power outside of the democratic realm.

"Let the private billionaires control the economy. The people, through their elected government should get nothing."

I imagine you'd have little trouble finding such a stat. Let us know how you make out.

Shouldn't jump to conclusions like that.
If he wants to know he seems more than capable of finding the info.

Since rich people pay more, one would assume they would be getting more for their money. Are their "Rich only" roads that we aren't allowed on? Do they have better policemen or firemen to protect them? Why should they be paying more, then?

You're assuming that paying more gives you the right to have more. It doesn't.

The richer a person is, the more they have benefitted from the existence of roads.

It's not about "having the right" that's just how it is.

The road two roads over parallel to where I live where the rich are is that place. The road gets repaved every year, they have their own school system basically, and a library and stuff. It's like a town within a town.

I literally live on the wrong side of the tracks.

____________________________________________________

does that strike anyone else as absurd??!!!

if you make a $100,000 salary, every year, you're paying the federal government $25,000... that's insane. if you're working 12 months out of the year, you're working for the federal government for 3 of those months.

let's say you're a doctor and you're making about $200,000 a year. you work 40 years. everything constant, about 13 years of your life is spent working for the government, forking over a sum total of 2.6 million.. and that's just federal taxes.

for contrast, let's say you're a minimum wage earner. you're giving the federal government 15% of your measley income. if you're scraping together $10,000 a year, the federal government is helping themselves to $1,500 of it. you spend about 2 months of each year working to pay off taxes. if you work for 50 years, throughout your life, you'll be lining uncle sam's coffers with $75,000.... 7 and a half years worth of work (federal taxes only).

well i'm sure it's all spent on really important stuff...  :smirk:
