Nice of you to educate your neighbors about mushrooms. Why the hell would someone not let you photograph their suillus? Perhaps he didn't know you take awesome mushroom pictures.

Sweet how the inky caps are melting together. I've never seen A Volvopluteus in grass. Very Neat.

That is where they are often seen in the Californian central valley, I still think the Volvopluteus could be V. earlei.
Edit: I noticed that all 4 (?) Volvopluteus species have good wiki articles now.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvopluteus_gloiocephalus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvopluteus_earlei https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvopluteus_michiganensis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvopluteus_asiaticus
Edit2: Spore size, cheilocystidia shape and the presence of pleurocystidia would be very helpful.

They were fairly large so . Fredo said he'd look at them but it won't be for a long time.
Let's just keep it simple and call all of these Psathyrellaceae....

Watch out for the fuzz!
And by fuzz I mean 5-0, 6 up, 1 time, flat foots, pigs, you get the idea... They're patrolling the rivers hard right now due to the salmon runs, so even when you think you're alone in the woods they are probably watching you.

Almost certainly Panaeolus castaneifolius (= Panaeolina castaneifolia) due to the robust stature and for being common in the central valley.

Bad-ass post and happy turkey day to you as well! I love your pooch pic, (need to pay more attention to the non id threads ). Man it's awesome how you captured him keyed onto something( ) out there. You and your dog can learn a lot together out there hunting.
