people that frequent this board
    #2092874 - 11/11/03 04:16 PM (13 years, 29 days ago)

This has been nagging me ever since I began frequenting this board. It seems that people post ideas that are in blatant contradiction to their life styles. examples include

nagging on belief systems and debunking major religions and then talking about planet x, 2012 ascension, spiral paths, and zetas which are beliefs.

preaching about zen and simple lifestyles and then spending countless hours making thousands of posts on the internet.

claiming to be open minded and being closed to anything that remotely chanllenges their belief system.

claiming to have experienced ego loss and then making posts that are grasping for some sort of satisfaction or recognition.

claiming that we are all brothers and everyone is equal, but harboring notions of their personal supremacy and superior intelligence, because they have had psychedelic experiences.

I must admit that I am guilty of many of the aforementions. I need to find a consensus on this problem of mine so I welcome your thoughts and insights

Also, there seems to be a lot of talk about thinking for yourself, but if someone with 10,000 or more posts speaks of pleaudians, it rarely goes untouched.

I'm sure we all think we are enlightened and that we are ahead of the game, but there are maybe five or six people on this planet right now that really get it

"Like me."

That's what I'm saying, if any one of us really got it, we woudn't be on this board right now. We're all here because we are searching for something.

well, I wouldn't hypothesize the actions of an enlightened being...
I'm open to the possibility that an enlightened being might decide
to post on the Shroomery - however unlikely :smirk:
I sure as hell ain't one of em...and IMHO there's no one I would
consider "enlightened" on this board (whatever that term entails),
altho there are some very smart people here with ideas to share
(which doesn't have anything to do with "enlightenment" - again
IMHO).
I'm just here to pass time...

Interesting ... and True. We are here to learn and bounce ideas off each other.

Just because you might have 5K+ posts, and have consumed pounds of psychedelics in your lifetime ... that doesn't automatically make you some kind of a 'guru'.

No matter how much you know, or think you know ... there is always something new to learn.

good points!!  except the simple lifestyle and then posting a lot.  the lifestyle may be simple, what goes on inside the head is not, unless you make it that way.

I'm here to learn and discuss. I feel there are a lot of very bright people here and want to take advantage of the situation.  it's here, might as well use it

We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.---senior doobie

I like all your points except this one.

You can't deny the fact that people who have had psychedelic experiences, have experienced something that many other people haven't. In that sense they are wiser. Just like a guy who reads quantum mechanics is wiser than a guy who hasn't read it. Relatively speaking.

Sometimes intelligence comes with a bit of arrogance. Sometimes arrogance is a sign of lack of intelligence.
I must admit i agree with you in some points. My question is, if learning is a continuous process and you must pass some cognitive stages to reach a state where you can understand the meaning of the word "opinion" as something not absolute. How are you supose to behave or think when you are in the middle of such process ?

"You can't deny the fact that people who have had psychedelic experiences, have experienced something that many other people haven't. In that sense they are wiser."

haha thats's bullshit dude. pure distilled crap. I mean SURE they have experienced something someone who hasn't experienced that hasn't, but it's completely irrelevant. You can't go around talking to people picking out who's done drugs. It doesn't get us ahead in any tangible way. Go talk to someone who hasn't done drugs and talk to them you'll find that you don't know anything more than they do.
