chammy, you using a regular lighter for this or a torch/alcohol lamp? I haven't had any blackness since I switched to a torch.

I use a butane torch (dab torch) and xacto, and I've seen blackening from burning the fruits. My first clone I did elm oysters, which are bright white, and I was seeing black. Had to adjust my technique on the fly when I saw it.

I gotta get started on this before it gets too late. Can someone clarify?

I've already pre-emptively been dipping the end in clean agar first or just giving it some time, since I started using the torch anyway, so it could be that, and I just learned to avoid it at the same time that I switched tools.

Yes dude just a drop, as long as you follow the rest of the recipe exactly. That's what it says ain't it?
If you wanna be daring you can get away with two.

I have been using a normal lighter, I have been contemplating getting a torch and sounds like you have convinced me. Thanks!

Torches are the shit either butane or propane. Both work great.

If you smoke weed just get a dab torch and call it an investment. There's also culinary torches, and just about every possible kind. There's a good chance you can find one that'll suit more than one need in your house. Smaller is probably better though.

Yup. Some of it even looks like cubensis
I would transfer from one or two of the better looking colonies before it all runs together.

,
So with your expert eyes what's the best looking colony? Just trying to get a hang of this agar stuff but everyone seems to have different opinions.
EDIT:
For instance, is bottom right a good sector? Looks nice, healthy and active.

Of all the qualities to select, you only have one to choose from: colonization speed.

The second pic, near the centre ya got some slightly rhizo looking myc. I would grab from that for starters. Take as small a wedge as you can manage without mangling it all up. A fresh blade is never a bad idea for these early transfers.

How can you tell? Overlapping Hyphae or because I dropped way too many spores on my agar?

Just the way it looks. Its really fluffy, even tomentose myc will flatten out if the genetics are limited.

You just dropped so many spores that it makes it harder to see if there is some mold myc hiding in there.

Oh. Alright cool, I'll cook some agar tonight for my petri's and transfer from a corner.
Thanks guys,

@Muda: Yeah, I filled the syringe myself and it wouldn't give me anything less then three or four drops with the slightest push. Not sure if it was the larger gauge needle I used or maybe it was loose. Since I've changed needles and this hasn't happened but both of those LCs came from the same syringe.
I'll pull a transfer off and see what happens.
