Doing anything for a friend, family member or lover...
    #2091170 - 11/11/03 12:55 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Why is it people will do "anything" for their lover, but not any thing?

What I mean by that is: people will do some great dramatic act of self-sacrifice for their s.o., but frequently fail to do a series of seemingly insignificant little acts, such as being sensitive or compromising or taking out the garbage?

Guess it is easier to express love in one gigantic moment rather than in a series of "ordinary" moments...

My roomates don't do shit around the apartment, so I pretty much take care of everything. I just try to look at it as an opportunity to strengthen my mind against anger or laziness. I figure cheerful service is the best way to live with other humans.

Because our culture models everything after the male orgasm.  Duh!

I think people love the drama. A lot of the time the big sacrifices are the ones that everyone around them notices.  their ego gets a big boost from it, they may even brag about what they did. Some may even have a secret IOU stuck in the back of their head, which can give them "leverage" over the other.  I was caught in this before ( a long time ago) sad to say. The small acts have to deal with a more genuine respect and caring for the SO.  not for ego purposes (power and security) but in pure love and respect. SOmetimes a person won't do an act if they feel that the other han't done enough for them, you know the "what have you done for me lately" attitude.
that's my 2 cents anyways

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I don't consider her my woman. I don't get sucked into believing things presented as enertainment. I don't believe that because some women are dancing and singing in movies that it has resulted in people saying that they will do anything for their lover but then usually don't even do the small things for them, as this was originally about. Or something.

I also don't believe that Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, and Marilyn Manson cause kids to kill themselves.

lol, my ex-gf was so convinced she'd do anything for me, but she wouldn't respect the fact i didn't want a finger in my ass. so she was going down on me, and when i was in the midst of my ecstasy, BLAM, finger in my fucking ass. dumb slut.

anywho, yea, i really would do anything for my girlfriend right now, except lie or kill or hurt somebody, unless she was in some kind of danger. but i would at least want this girl that i'm doing anything for to love me enough to respect that i dont want a finger in my ass. my girlfriend now wanted to stick a finger in my ass. she wanted to do it while i was tripping on hawaiian baby woodrose seeds. i tried telling her i'd let maybe when i came down some other day, but she kept insisting. in fact, it was just to know that she had complete control over me. but i'll do anything for her, not i'll let her control me. anywho, yea, she never did stick a finger in my ass.

it's easier that way. big emotional interactions have obvious and very stimulating answers, while smaller ones require more security and a bigger more plentifull suppliy of esteem :heartpump:

I have NEVER told a lover that I would do anything for her. But I have never been very good at lying, so I don't even try.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
