Shroom Drying Questions. Please Help!!!!

Hello everybody! I'm quite new here, although I've found these forums really helpfull in the past.
About three weeks ago, I started drying some psilocybe semilanceata, I've gathered myself in some fields near here(Scotland). This is the procedure I followed.
I placed each 100 mshrooms in a normal plastic cooking bag. Then, I poured a descent amount of Table Salt in a glass container(I've read table salt made a good desiccant), and I placed the plastic bag with the shrooms in the glass jar on top of the salt. I then, sealed the jar tightly..
Results..: 3 or more weeks later, I opened one of the jars. I heard that fshhhht sound when I unscrewed the lid, so I assumed the table salt did its job and removed the oxugen from the jar. Anyway, the shrooms were far than dryed. First of all the STINKED BADLY, that terrible shoe smell, there was lot of water in the bottom of the plastic bag, and the mushrooms were...demolished.. They were WET, not dried, and had all stucked together.. not a jolly sight..
So, are the mushrooms destroyed? Or just lost potency? Is there anything I could do, to restore them? or is this normal? And what should I do next time? What have I done wrong? Recently I got some dry ice in my poccession should I use that next time?
Thanks everyone! Really waiting for your replies, cause what I saw today, really brought me down..

Seems like they rotted. Why not just buy Damp-Rid and make yourself a drying chamber?

Don't dry them in the oven, heat will kill the psilocybin.
First fan dry your mushrooms for about 24 hours. Then go to a hardware store and get some Damp-Rid, put it in the bottom of a tupperware container, put a screen over that and put your mushrooms on the screen. After a few days they'll be cracker dry.

Psilocybn begins to denature at 70 deg f if u use temps below this u should be fine
its just as easy to let them lie on a sheet of paper in a room, room temp is enough to dry them dry in 4/5 days no hassle, the damp rid screen idea is a quicker and efficient way. Depends what u have to hand

Well a Food dehydrator with Four stacks set at lowest setting usually 95* works great. Simply put the mushies on the bottom stack (5-6inches from heating element) and they dry in like 24 hr's. No worry about the heat degrading the mushies as the fan and the distance from the actual heat source makes it safe. 40$ at Wally World. GL

So, that's for drying. What do you guys do, after they are dryied? if I still keep me on a table lying on a paper sheet, would that make em last? will they loose psilobin? What's the procedure you take?

After they are cracker dry you can put them in a sealed container, ziplock, etc. Then store them in a cool dark place.

This works well for me. Just place them on a tray in fromt of the intake vent for your A/C. Sorry you lost your stuff. Fresh mushies against plastic will turn to goo very quick.

"Psilocybn begins to denature at 70 deg f if u use temps below this u should be fine"
hmm, i dunno about 70deg f, thatd mean theyd never get potent if yoru growin at 85deg. like theyd constanly be broken down. so im sure that numbers wrong and i think its closer to 100 or somewhere aorund there. 70 is way to low.

LOL! 70 degrees Centigrade is around 160 fahrenheit, I guess thats what was meant. Just lay them out flat on a bit of paper in front of a fan, 24hrs like that and they will be kinda leathery and wrinkly like. Then put them in a sealed box like you did with a desicant. Calcium Cloride (Damprid what they call it over the pond, I have seen it called Kontrol Crystals in DIY shops in London, it is used in moisture traps to deal with damp and codensation), is a lot better desicant than salt, plus you can re-use it, if you do not let it get water logged you can oven dry it between uses. They should be cracker dry in a day or 2. Sorry about your loss though

Great, thanx everyone! So, if I got it right, if I would have dried the mushrooms before puting them in the glass jars, everything would have worked well..
So, after I dry them, would it be better to store them in oxygen-sealed storages, like jam jars, for not loosing potency, or would any ordinary paper box do?
Thanks everyone.. and I guess it's ok. I still have some time to gather some more mushrooms, before the session is off...
