@Cosmicfool: I vaguely remember the JP4 logo. I'm going to stream it on Putlocker right now. All this talking about JP has got me in the mood to watch it.

no I meant this movie is JP4

and I like the JP books but thought they were an overly easy read
they kind of glossed over everything and didn't go into tons of detail
it made the book fly by but it made it feel like it lacked depth

Yea. I figured that out the hard way. I was searching putlocker for JP4 for a good 30 minutes lol.
A bit too much :happyweed: today has posts going over my head.

Very cool. I'm quite interested in the ethics of innovation & tech.

Which of Crichton's books would you suggest as my first read?

To tell you the truth, I only read JP and it's also the one that appeals to me the most going by the brief descriptions of the others. I think Prey might be worthwhile as well.

Btw, I just checked the list of his novels and it seems he wrote Lost World as well, so JP2 is apparently also based on a book.

Lost World is more like a cross between JP2 and JP3
they've got people who want to take the dinosaurs off the island but they never do

Thanks Koraks.

Here's a better trailer. It's pretty cool. They made it so it seems like a commercial for a real theme park:

And here's a short interview with the director explaining the plot:

I read JP, but I just couldn't get through Lost World. I just found it really monotonous and boring, unlike JP, which I just couldn't put down.

Congo and The Andromeda Strain were pretty good ones by Michael Crichton as well.

I wonder if in the future we will have a real dinosaur park. It seems like if they can clone sheep, they may one day be able to make dinosaurs from the DNA in their fossils.

Thanks for the suggestions psi.

I remember watching The Andromeda Strain several years ago and it's right up my alley as far as genres of films go.

That's definitely gonna be the first book I read by Crichton.

Well I mean it's possible scientifically I guess. Not as you see it in Jurassic Park though.

If I'm not mistaken the O2 levels at the times of the dinosaurs were drastically higher than they are today. Which is one of the reasons reptiles were able to grow so large at that time.

So in order for it to work, the dinos would have to live in a closed environment (like a bubble) where the oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen levels can be controlled.

I was excited until I saw the trailer. Then I lost all hope. Whoever designed that trailer and whoever authorized that trailer to be released should be fired....holy shit.

I kinda liked the way they made it seem like a commercial for an actual destination. Good concept, bad execution IMO.

IDK, maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth from the awkward plots of the other. I have a bad feeling about this movie already. You can already tell all hell is going to break loose somehow and a few people are gonna die and the rest make it.

I dunno. For some reason this "theme park" plot just isn't sitting right with me.

Yea. You might be right after the garbage that was put on screen in JP 2 & 3.

It was just announced this morning though. I'm holding out and hoping to see some better trailers in the near future.

there is no organic matter found in fossils it's all rock and minerals
but if you mean something like the bugs trapped in amber
even in the movies they weren't able to get complete DNA strains
(they had to fill in the gaps with amphibian DNA which is why they became a-sexual)

So this is out in May right?
OK, spoiler alert:

Starts out all happy, then something goes wrong, a bunch of people die and get eaten, but the pretty people survive.

Am I right or am I right?
