 Having trouble with KSSS Pinning

Hey folks.
I am having difficulty getting my tub of KSSS to pin. It seems to have cultivated very thick but maybe I let it consolidate too much? Not sure what is going on but it's been fully colonized for a bit more than a week now. Any thoughts, advice?

You should try putting on a pasteurized casing layer of peat moss, or "seed starter mix" that includes peat moss.
They say cubes dont need a casing layer but i always use a casing layer anyway, i think it helps with pinning/pin set and it helps keep the substrait from drying out.
I usually use a late casing method.
I case it as soon as it starts pinning, but perhaps casing it at this point may help promote pinning.

I'm an idiot and let it get a little too dry. I just misted the shit outta it. it's looked like this for the past few days. Should I even bother to case it?
Can the dry out happen if you let it consolidate too much before throwing it into fruiting conditions?

Or too much FAE. Do you have a fan running?
I'd put a casing layer on it. A field capacity casing layer will add moisture to the sub, preventing you from having to mist.

That tub looks fine, though it's a little dry. I'm actually going to blame this one on genetics. Leave it be but case it after harvesting the 1st flush

I would not case now because he does have a few fat guys coming in. If he cases before the 2nd flush, i think it will help.

Yes. OP's genetics suck. At least with a casing he'll give the 2nd flush a better chance.
And mushrooms fruit when they are ready. Like I've said before, I've built tubs and put poly in immediately. Not taping holes. They fruit when they are ready

No. I don't do it with pe. Did it many times with gt though. Build a bunch of tubs. Leave town for 3 weeks and come home and harvest. Try it on a non pe tub sometime. True set and forget

cased at 100%, fruited
got to 100%, consolidated 4-5 days, cased, fruited

yea, i think it has to do with KSSS being a weird mutant thing, b/c it seems similar to PE in that respect, although I'm not sure if people consolidate their PE frequently, but they do case them.

Yeah I heard a lot of mutants first flush.
As long as I get a good pinset .
I'm growing this strain twice from the same master so I'll consolidate this one for 5 days and the next one I'll throw into fruiting right at full colonization.

I'm going to start consolidating for longer periods of time. I read a thread a few days ago (thanks cron) about how long consolidation times possibly increase potency. Very interesting reads.

Primal is actually a good friend of mine and responds to my trip reports here and there. Completely forgot about consolidating until PINNING though...
Might try that with my second tub so I can tell potency differences.

Here it is about 2 days ago. These genetics are pissing me off. What are the tricks with difficult KSSS? I definitely will case them, but what else can I do?
I grabbed colonized grains from the jars that colonized quickly and threw them on plates of agar. I'm going to work on getting something better from that I think.

I had heard that KSSS has the same tendencies as PE. I would have cased it. Are there beads of moisture along your sub? If not then this is an indication of too much FAE and a dried out sub. At that point I'd mist a little every day to replace moisture and stuff my bottom holes a little tighter. If you're running a fan maybe move it farther away.

It's moving through the casing fairly well. I've been on top of the other monotubs of the KSS I have with my fingers crossed.

I think I'm going to give up on growing thai ksss cubes. My other monotub from same batch of sponsor syringes is getting the short fat pin/mushroom that never grows up. Just weird short fat mutants with little caps and stupid dense stems.
I think it's a loss on these, which sucks as I have 15 quart jars I just G2G. Maybe my grow room is too cold? It's no cooler than 67. Should I turn the little space heater back on?
I'm really at a loss here. The gold teachers and god seekers had no issues at all compared to this.

Second flush they produce better. Those little blobs are potent af and some of the easiest shrooms to eat.

My first and current grow using God Seekers - Also have PE, GT, and Rotaun Honduras. Dunno why I chose to do the God Seekers first.

Update. Im not sure if they aren't getting enough FAE or what. The tub that I cased has been working its way through the casing, but isn't throwing pins despite a ton of knotting.
Second tub that I spawned maybe a week and a half ago tore through the substrate super fast. It's got primordia, a couple small pins, and tons of knots. Again, no vigorous pinning activity. I'm pretty close to giving up on these and just dumping the tubs.
I've got some sweet PE6 on agar from Muda that's ready to be cut into wedges and put into jars. I also have another God Seeker syringe and a shit load of new prints from trades.
What do you guys think....bail or what?

Or......as I've just checked...It could be that my RH is too low due to the dry air in winter. Shit. Is an ultrasonic useful for a room? Can I use it for a whole room?
I'm a little bummed tho, I figured monotubs wouldn't have major issues with RH?

Cased the one that was originally stalled and its just pinning small little things on the sides. Fresher one is same story/little pins but a lot of knots.
I think I may just be screwed on this MS grow. Good news is I have some great plates going and some new prints to work with.

Just for the record, I didn't even see this thread before I guessed KSSS in the PM you sent me. I've had the same trouble with KSSS 
Like cron said, you can see the drying on the sub around the bottom holes. You may need to stuff them tighter. Is there condensation on the walls? If they are dry, you may be getting too much FAE and drying out the surface too fast.
If you have central heat and a vent in the room, you may be getting more air circulation than you think. I had to cover my vent because all my tubs were drying out.
I don't know what's up with KSSS, but I've ran a bunch of trays in a GH, monotubs, and cakes with different cultures from different syringes and the results have always been similar to your experience. I haven't tried them in a while though.

You're spot on about the central heating. I've covered up the vent with a hoodie for now. Misted the crap outta all my tubs and hoping for the best.
In the meantime, imma cut up some agar with PE6 and toss the slices on grain.

For those of you who desired an update. I got one of my tubs to pin. Whether it was cold shock or closing the central heating vent in the room. Boom pins! Now.....summoning you KSSS nerds, what do I need to do to make them happier?
I opened some of the polyfil more as there were some fuzzy feet and fuzzy feet like myc nearest the stuffed holes. Thoughts?

i would pour some water on top for a couple hours then tilt off the excess to help support those

Seems like there are a lot of mixed opinions on KSSS. Seems like a lot of great cultivators on here love it and others decided to never grow it again.

Make sure your FAE is good or they'll rapidly abort,
Give them another 3-4 days,
I pick when they've changed colors and the caps are curling upwards a little. Sometimes with those I just wait for spores to drop because they don't make a mess and then I KNOW they're ready.

Word. A lot of FAE? I have a small fan that cycles in the room every now and again. Or should I turn the ceiling fan on low?
