What exactly are the nutrients that are needed by mushrooms to thrive?
After looking over High Mountain Compost it says the mix is specially formulated for mushroom growth, but what is in it that makes it so much better than other substrates?
Thanks for any information or help.

I would like to know also. I was thinking that a sterile injection of nutrients into a cake would help it to have more and better flushes. That way someone who was growing for personal consumption could have only a few cakes, and keep them indefinitely. If I am wrong please tell me, I have been dreaming of keeping a cake until I die with a steady injection of nutrients. Perpetual harvest would be an amazing advancement in our hobby.
thanks, student

I remember hearing something about vitamin b before. I might be wrong, it's just something I heard, really.

mycocat, i do not know the what the nutes are that work best for the mush but you cannot go wrong with some wheat straw and a little poo. if you can provide the right system to advert contams there is nothing better IMO. and starter, nice idea but a major pipe dream. even with perfect nutes a cake will play out, just as you would if fed the best food in the world. It's evolution baby!!!!

Hmmm......
The main nutrients for saprophyte mushrooms would be complex carbohydrates, I guess.
