Sorry to say it could be never. High nutes in the agar helps with that but its not guaranteed
If and when it does happen you can be pretty sure its a good set of fruiting genetics

MudaFuka said: It will liquefy in the PC and set again once cooled. You do want it to be the consistency of jello. I like a bit softer mix for germinating spores but it should still be a solid. If you are using a syringe the spores will already be hydrated so a firmer mix will still be fine. Just remember not to use too many spores or it will be hard to track your growth.
Perfect then! I made another batch of agar as well, used blue food colouring this time (as opposed to green for the first) and made this one a bit better. Poured it when it was liquid too and looked much better and neater
Got 4 in the PC, 2 blue and 2 green. Then one more of each in the fridge due to a small PC
Will drop a single drop from the syringe in the middle of the agar in a green and a blue mixture and see how it differs and play around a bit - hopefully start with some grain work sometime soon - need some gypsum first though. Struggling to find
Thanks!
You don't need gypsum but it helps. I get mine by crushing sheets of drywall.

Hey Pasty, had a query that calls for your expertise(or anyone that knows, for that matter), I pretty much use your recipe in the tek to the T except I tend to add a small pinch of nutritional yeast to it before adding water, but I have some light malt extract as well that doesn't get used. I don't suppose there would be any particular purpose to add that to my own recipe, would there? My goal would only be something like a well-rounded agar recipe with slightly better recovery when used as an inoculant but I have no idea where any of those traits come from. I'm assuming potato flakes cover pretty much all the nutritional value aside from sugars.
I guess all I really want to know is if adding 5-10mg of LME would hurt the mix at all or provide too much of any particular thing that's already supplied.
edit: ALSO- Is anyone else finding that the fucking ninja turtle gladwares are the only ones that are even being sold right now? It's like they completely tossed all the regular ones, I checked multiple stores. I do like the green tops but I'm not a fan of the turtle obstructions on the side, not that they really matter. I did a batch of them with dark green agar for the fuck of it.

Well I just had my first go using this tek, and its the only tek Ive followed that has given me a plate that gelled! All the other ones refused to work with the crap agar I bought. Good stuff on the way though.
Thank you pastywhyte for giving me a solid recipe!

Not sure where you are, but Target still had both of them when I checked. I accidentally bought the TMNT ones a while back, and like you said, the turtles obstruct the sides so you can't peer in too easy. BUT, the green lid makes it way easier to snap photos IMO, so there's a trade. I am switching my green lids onto the original purple, clear ones for maximum use on those.
You can buy and reserve stuff on Target.com for pickup. I'd check there to see if they're available in your area, and if so, just give them a call and ask if they're turtles or not.

If you're comfortable with ordering online there are usually good deals on amazon, especially if you're a prime member.
96 Glad Mini Rounds - Sometimes this one goes on sale for $10 (and free shipping with prime). I got in on that deal some time back so I can dink around with agar all I want and not worry about running out of plates. Even at the $30 it's currently priced at it's a great deal compared to buying them in single 8 packs.
Those ninja turtle ones look to be kind of expensive on amazon so I'd guess they're probably also costly in stores.

They're 2.50 for a 6 pack, same price as the regular ones, use the same bar code too I believe.

Aah that's not all that bad then. I just noticed it's not actually amazon selling them but a vendor on amazon. That crazy vendor wants $12 for 8 of them. For that price the ninja turtles better defend the agar from contaminates with their ninja skills.

No I don't have any actual problems with them I just think it's weird as fuck. Desperate companies trying to make deals with each other I can only assume.

Here's an updated picture of the last plate I posted. I think it got mixed opinions on whether it was fine to use or if it should be transferred.

Does it look like the top right portion is breaking off by itself around 1-3?

Sweet, thanks. Just for knowledge, if you were to transfer that, is there any part of it that looks better? Still trying to hone my eyes for this. The sectored part looks a bit farther away, so is that "quicker" mycelium?

That's pretty cool looking, like it's a precut wedge, you may be on to something stare, a set of genes that precuts agar wedges for you! I would transfer immediately to a new plate, you may have stumbled across something huge, LOL, I'm just fucking with you stare!
@ Pudgy, you may have already heard this somewhere else, but it has been true IME that if you introduce lighting to the agar, (sometimes throwing it in the fridge will do it too, in cultures that require a cold shock before fruiting, example, enoki) sometimes it will pin for you, I have a plate right now pinning, a few days after being exposed to light, and the same culture in a different dish (in the dark) not doing shit.
