Can Dripping water make a cake turn blue on top?
    #2087779 -

Can dripping water from the lid of my terrarium turn a cake blue or grey? I ask because one of my cakes has this happening and i believe there might be water dripping on it. It started out as grey and seemed to turn a sort of blue green. I will have pics soon. Thanks for any replies.

i would think that is probably a contam and it could have been brought in by the water but it may also be bruising of the mycellium. With pics it will be easier to tell - peace

First thanks for the picture posting info i dont know why i couldnt find it. Here is a pic that was taken yesterday i have another one with a more developed blue green spot that i may upload tomorrow. Let me know what you think

Oh yeah and i notice that many people are using the same type of rubbermaid container terrarium that i am using without the dripping water issue, i know you can use a slanted lid to deal with it but what other measures can you take?

Thanks

depends on the setup.
if its a pmp with fishstones you can do a couple of things like putting the pump on low and/or drilling a couple of 1/2in holes in the side of the pod and taping filter paper over themto allow for more air exchange
you can lower the level of geolite or perlite in the bottom of the pod.
or you can check every so often and tilt the lid all the time to drip dry it.

It looks like bruised mycelium.
Anyway, wait a couple of days and see if it grows or changes color.

water dripping, even misting = bruising (nothing to worry about)

k just one more pic to confirm that i am safe? the spot got bigger but i guess that could be due to more water dripping on it. It also seems bluer which i guess would be a good thing. I have pointed out a shroom that seems to be doing something weird, it was the first to grow but also seems to have stoped growing, it's veil opened really early on when it was tiny. What would do this. By the way this is my second time growing. It seems like these took a long time to pin initially. Thanks for the replies thus far
