Argyreia's E.G
    #20873958 - 11/22/14 09:28 AM (9 years, 2 months ago)

Hello !

I'm gonna show you what I'm growing in my EG.

First of all, the first ethno plant I grew because I love the high these seeds give. Three of them takes you to a 8hours journey in heaven .
My Hawaiian baby woodrose. I'm not sure about her age. Maybe 7 or 8 monthes. she is seed grown.

These are three HBW babies. I think they are less than two monthes old.

My Kanna babies sowed the 28th of october  :

Three lophophora williamsii seedlings sowed the 28th of october too :

And to finish my T. Pachanoi seedlings sowed two weeks later I think :

I don't forget the little ethno puss I'm growing too

I'm planning to try grafting some of those seedlings (pachanoi and lopho) on pereskiopsis that are rooting right now.
I grow many other things. I'll show later on.
Updates will come regularly. I hope I'm not gonna lose my kanna seedlings. They look so feeble.

Sweet garden you have there. And welcome to the shroomery!

I will be starting some HBWR soon myself. How did you go about starting yours? Any special steps taken?

Gently slice the hull with cisors or razor blade and put them into water and wait for them to get swollen. Then put them in moist almost wet soil at 1cm deep and wait.
Do not water them until the cotyledons are deployed ! risk of mold attack !

I have never needed to slice the seed, do you find increased germination doing that? I follow the same steps as you but have never sliced the hull and I get roughly 80-90% germination.

These plants love a shit ton of light and if you have some sort of root pruning pot that will help immensely. I use Texel bags which are nursery tree potter bags with a copper thread that burns roots when they touch the side of the pot and encourages a larger/healthier/more fibrous root base as opposed to a regular pot of the same size. Ive been able to keep a healthy plant in a 3 gallon root pruning pot for 3 years with no fuss. I also manually prune 1/3 of the roots off the bottom once a year when I cut the vines off at the end of the season.

They just swell quicker when they are nicked. It has no further effect.

Did you cover em up with saran wrap or anything while waiting for them to sprout?
Just regular ol soil work ok for em?

Nice garden! What kind of light do your HBWR get? I have some seeds but am hesitant to plant them since there is nowhere in my house that gets decent natural light.

The babies are under 120W fluo tube.

The big one is under no light and doesnt seem to bother. You can grow them with no light. They will survive.

Well. It is said to be active. It is said to have tropane alkaloids and it is know as a medicinal specie. Also known for poisonning livestocks.
If someone has more information about it...
Anyways A. nervosa is perfect for getting high. No need to try doubtful experiments haha.

It is one of the unique ipomoea capable of growing and sustaining its weight without climbing on a support. Flowers are deep pink or pink-whitish or even white.

I grow many kinds of ipomoea. Next update i'll be showing my caudiciforms ipomoeas :-)

Im going to look into that. If it does conatain tropane then colour me intriqued!

IMO/IME Turbina corymbosa is the best source of LSA for recreational use. Much better than HBWR.

Im excited to see more of your Ipomoea!!

Have you had any experience growing turbina corymbosa? Ive heard it was quite difficult,  and have avoided trying growing it because of that.

I have managed to germinate one out of 10 seeds maybe... The seedling is two monthes old and has only grown One and a half leaves and has lost cotyledons. I use the same setup as all my other ipomoeasbut it dosent seem to work.

Lots of luck with Turbina! I have 4 plants that are almost a year old, they grew vines over 4ft this summer but I didnt let them flower.
Right now they are in smaller pots for the winter and under an LED to just stay alive until next summer, they look great though

This pic is from sometime around july
I cut them back pretty low and potted them in individual 1L pots for the winter

Turbina is a short day flowering plant so it flowers in the later half of the summer when the days become shorter naturally.
I did not let mine flower sort of on purpose. A few years ago my ex was feeding my Ipomoea tricolor waaay too much nitrogen throughout the summer without me realizing. She was fertilizing with miracle grow while I was at work, not maliciously lol she thought she was helping .
Anyway all the nitrogen prevented the morning glory from flowering, not a single fflower all summer.
So I planted the Turbina in a soil with high nitrogen on purpose to see if it would react the same as the Ipomoea. It did
I could have guessed that and mostly did but I didnt care if they didnt flower because I bring them in for the winter so Ill flower them next year!

Update !

Here are the kanna babies. They are One month and 10 days old.

Sorry for the crappy quality. We can see that they are producing their second set of leaves ! The first leaves keep growing too  ! I was a bit worried because I germinated them in a 100% mineral soil so some of them started to die for no reason and I have had to transplant them.
I transplanted one with almost no roots and it still grows ! Amazing though seedlings !

And as a bonus, my seed grown 3-4 monthes old ipomoea purpurea blooming !

I love this purpurea with dark pink color and only tri lobbed leaves.

What is strange with that one is that it didnt produce any ramifications. All the nodes of the main vine are producing only one flower bud.
I think ipomoea purpurea/violacea need a lot of rootspace and being rootbound with no natural light lessens their vigor and forces flowering. (In my experience.)

Some new things to show !

My HBW is throwing a vine to the roof of my bedroom.

She was thirsty this afternoon altough the soil was slightly moist  ! After a good soak and within 5 minuts she had recovered.

Here is the place where I grow the things :

And here is Jack, my loph graft close-up. I keep taking pictures of him    He's so spiny.

A while I havn't posted in this thread. Time to post some pictures of my garden ! :sun:

This fat trich is growing so fast since I repotted it and put tons of organic ferts. Like never before.

A strange thing that germinated in a random pot. It growws fast and looks beautiful.

Pedro pup !

The Kanna seedlings. I don't really know why they grow like this. No stem at all and branching from every node. That's crazy.

Outdoors astrophytum seedlings. They are much more dark and compact than thos I have indoors. I think they prefer being outdoors !

Nice plants, A.
The "strange thing" is probably Portulaca grandiflora, and by now you will be even more pleased because of the flowers.
What are its companions? Are they seed grown Aloe variegata?

Yes, aloe variegata

These are "suckers" (don't know if it's the right word. It's a weird word nonetheless.) from a mother plant that died of rot. They are well rooted and growing. I hope they will survive the winter dormancy.

My MGs are getting huge and all the vines switched to flowering mode

I wonder how many thousand seeds I'm gonna get... :awecid: :awehigh:

This is my little ipomoea batatas cutting

It has grown well since I rooted it and it's surprisingly in flowering mode !
I'd be happy to experiment sowing ipomoea batatas seeds as you cannot find them.

Ipomoea batatas is normally not good at flowering, especially when little like this. I think it might be because I took the cutting on a flowering mode vine and the new plant didn't switch to vegetative growth for some reason. :sunny:

I will try to cross pollinate ipomoea batatas and ipomoea violacea. I'm not expecting much from this as I've never heard of hybrids like this but who knows ? I might get psychedelic potatoes

Very nice! And is that an Ariocarpus trying to hide in the pot of the Matucana?

Yeah it's an hybrid ariocarpus agavoides x retusus x kot. grafted on a peres stalk.

I have three other ariocarpi that are big enough to flower this fall I hope. (Don't know at which size/age they can flower. They are ~2,5cm diameter.)

These two are clones and are also hybrids of some sort.

This one is a trigonus rubriflorus

Plus an army of seedlings and newborns :omgawesome:

Hybrids are not my thing, I admit. I would say the first one seems big enough to flower this coming autumn, but the others not so. I will gladly be wrong on this, though.

Graft : Loph pup on hylocereus pup.
Before (3.5 months ago) :

Now :

Some late MG sprout climbing on dead poppy stalks (Love the look it has )

Late portulaca sprout. They reseed each year but it's been two years that they sprout late and give a low amount of flowers...

And some roses.

Summer is the best season of the year after spring :omgawesome:

One week i hadn't seen my plants.

My alberto is going through hard times. He's getting soft at the base and growth slowed down but still growing. There's a flower bud on this pup ! And two more buds at the apex but I don't know if they will make it.

This turbinicarpus graft is blooming like mad.

You were right Zed, this little guy is sprouting two flower buds
