Timing Questions
    #2087200 - 11/09/03 09:25 PM (13 years, 29 days ago)

Ok. So this is my first grow and I have a few quick questions. I am growing creeps on PF tek. 3/4 of the jars are nearing 100% colonization and the other 1/4 are at about 75-80%. They were innoc'd on October 28.

The question:

Thanksgiving is coming up and I will be headed home over break. Would I have enough time to case and fruit them before break? I am leaving on November 26 and will be gone till the next Monday. Would it be better to wait and case till after then?

How long after 100% colonization do you wait till casing? I will be casing with 60/40 coir/verm. Thanks guys.

Do you think I can case it right before I leave for break and let it incubate for those 4-5 days? How long does it typically take from casing till final flush?

letting it incubate for 4 or 5 days would be ok aslong as you dropped the temp a little below optimal ie 75 to 80 degrees instead of the normal 86.
this will slow the growth down so that you dont return to a casing covered with the beginings of overlay.

Just leave them in the jars in a cool place (like 65-70 F). The mycellium will continue to strengthen and consume nutrients, which will help it fruit later on. At that temp, it will barely even change by the time you get back. If you case early and a little cob web mold or something gets on it, you will have no way of treating it and you will definetely loose them:( I say leave them in the sterile jars to strengthen and finish up. If you have a lot of jars, take 4 - 1/2 pint jars with you to make up some cran-juice cocktail:))

Is it a good idea to turn my incubator down during these next 2.5 weeks? Or should i leave it at 85F? I think I will case before I leave for break so it will be almost ready when I return.

Here is my grow log: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...;o=&fpart=1

Once you case, you can wait weeks, I mean upto three to four weeks before initiating pinning, just case them and keep the temp in the low 70's. If you live in a cold place just keep them room temp. If anything you arrive to a premature flush.

I would wait.Like puggymalone said,"if you get any contam at all"you will loose the whole thing because nobody will be there to treat it in time. You'll only be holding them back for 5 days or so.What's the big deal about waiting a few days to be sure you don't waist all your work from being over anxious?Either way good luck.

Why not let the jars colonize and then stick them in the fridge? I would wait to case, like said above. The jars shouldn't contaminate -- at the worst, they'll pin early, unless you stick them in the fridge.

How long can they be in the fridge for?  When would I stick them in the fridge, after they are 100%?  Would turning my incubator down serve the same purpose?  I wish the timing would have worked out better. :frown:

I'd wait until right when they look 100% colonized -- the mycelium will grow a bit in the fridge, so you can be sure they're 100% colonized when you get back, but the growth will be really slow. The fridge won't hurt them, but if you're gone for a really long time they might actually pin in the fridge.

Turning the incubator won't help as much, unless they're actually refigorated. The fridge slows the growth a lot.

So basically it would be a really bad idea to let them continue to colonize past 100%?

After I get back then I can case and incubate right out of the fridge like nothing ever happened?

Ok, I need to wait another day or two for the last two jars to finish colonizing. After that I will rub them all down with alcohol, bag in a black trash back and set them all in a box. I am going to tie the bag closed to keep contams away. Leave in fridge for 2 weeks and then come back and case as normal.

Sound like it will work fine?
