Hello Shroomers,
The Gymnopilus mushrooms are flourishing!
Today we found upon yet another new spot to collect Gyms!
And i found at least 2 different species growing in the beds of mulch.
The Gymno's were fruiting in the thousands,
This is what i brought back to be identified at a later date -And to take spore prints of each collection.
No noticeable bluing in any of these collections,
Keep shroomin This first collection was only these 3 large mushrooms, -They grew in the mulch-bed, but they hid under the bushes. -This is my first time picking this mushroom species.
This second collection pictured below was fruiting in thick clusters directly from the mulch beds, -There were thousands of these and these are the caps i brought home; -I have found these mushrooms before but i am still unsure of their precise identity;
And this last small collection with the purple caps and yellow gills, growing in a small cluster from the mulch in close proximity to both of the other collections pictured above; -I am relatively certain that i have made prior collections of this beautiful purple mushroom before,

Hey Mr Mushrooms,
I know what your talking about and i'll try to find them again today.
I can't leave the house without making at least two Gymno collections.
So i'm real busy and i have about a dozen different gym's drying off and printing and labeling all of these finds takes a lot of time. -This is why i haven't had any time yet to post any typed details.
I'm also in the process of helping the Shroom Wizard install a new chapter into our hunting guide at www.shroomwizard.com
I found another collection of these, Possibly G junious but i am only taking prints and drying these collections for now but i am also taking pictures.
Keep shroomin, GG
You know i have to first catalog the photograph and date it, then i have to do spore prints and then you label the prints and then you lay them out and you have to label that too.
I would have time to look over all this but we are making all new collections and this takes some time too.
Keep shroomin, GGreatOne234

I have no personal experience with this, but I read somewhere that active gymnos turn green when cooked. Anybody know anything about this? This may be just bullshit, but if it's true , it would be worth a try.
GG, you sure have the knack for finding interesting mushrooms. You could find cope cyans on the moon

Well i went back today and made this collection of shrooms; -Almost every one collected here had some blue on either the cap or the base of the stems mycelium.
I am taking prints of these definately.

Notice the bluing is not evident in these photos, unfortunately my camera doesn't always capture the magic blue color that the shroom displays. But i assure it was there. I am taking spore prints, ....

Mr_Mushrooms said: I have cooked many a Gym, doo. That rumor is BS. It is about as reliable as using a silver spoon to test toxicity.
I suppose an accurate rule for Gyms would be if they have orange-brown spores AND have greenish tones while fresh they are active. But please note that Gyms can cause liver problems because of certain other organic compounds that are found in them. I only say this from past experience.
Thanks for clearing that up about cooking the gyms.
Can all the gymnos potentially cause liver problems? What are the componds that cause this, and is there any way to alleviate this problem?
GG, those things really changed color. At first they were orange, but now they have a more reddish, almost purplish look to'em. I see some darker spots on some of the shrooms. Is this the bluing you observed? Try the red background trick next time. Maybe the bruising will show up more in the photos.
I believe those babies are magic.

Alright Shroomers,
It hasn't rained for two days and now it is getting dry outside..
Today i made 6 more collections of Gymnopilus! First up, we have a small collection of suspected Gymnopilus luteofolius, growing from a bed of mulch and woodchips near Oak and Palm trees near houses;
Second we have what may possibly be G. luteofolius (or a closer variant to the species), found growing in a similar habitat of woodchip/mulch around Palm and Oak trees nearby houses; At a newfound location just down the road from the ones above;
Third we have a 2nd collection from a unidentified tree stump, most likely either Palm or Oak; At the curb of the road at the front of a house. Note: Today I breifly looked at the 1st collection i took from the same tree stump just days earlier and i observed these drying specimens having a bluish/green tint/staining on a few of the stems;
Fourth we have a collection of some much larger caps, and these specimens were about 70% dry when i got to them. They grew from a Palm tree stump that produced these same looking mushrooms last summer and now they are obviously back!;
And next we have a similar mushroom, found growing from a Palm tree stump, at a public park;
And last we have yet another small (dry) collection of what may possibly also be G luteofolius (or a variation of that); Found growing from mulch and woodchips at the same public park mentioned above;

No trip report sorry Here are the photos of dried collections which show a blue/green color on the stem;
And last a picture of the suspected G luteofolius; these are the caps that were used for spore printing; these caps pictured below were sliced in half with scissors to make spore printing easier; The prints are thick and beautiful rusty orange. Notice the light blue tints on the flesh where it was cut;

verry nice work; both of you.
as was pointed out to bme before, this is not the easiest genus for id'ing based on morphology.
i'm gonna have to get that book taht was recomended to me, i believe by GG.
-------------------- Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Saweet news!~
The three lute's (luteoviridis, luteus, luteofolius) all stained blue; so they are probably all actives. I know that luteofolius has been recorded to grow in florida, but im not sure about the other ones, i'll have to check the Worldwide Distribution of Shrooms paper for that later.
And the G. subtropicus was found by me in a Shroom pasture with my hunting buddy Peaceful Nomad. He took a picture of them but i dunno if he still has it (?). Subtropicus is not an active, but it has a cool name though
-Just wait until next season, i'm going to tear it up again next year with the Gymno's again.
Keep on shroomin,
Thanks MM
