Hollow shrooms having trouble drying?
    #2086472 - 11/09/03 02:10 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

So I've got some shrooms in a rubbermaid with dessiccant on the bottom, and they are sitting on a piece of cardboard with holes punched in it. The biggest mushrooms seem kind of flexible, and the outsides of the stems seem pretty dry, but they also squish in a bit, like they are hollow. I was wondering if they are indeed a bit hollow, and what I should do about them not seeming to want to dry. they aren't very thick stems, so it doesn't seem like i should have to cut them down the middle, but would that be a good idea? I didn't leave them on a fan for 24 hours, but i did let them sit out in a room with a ceiling fan, and a bit of time just sitting on a paper towel in my closet for a total time of at least 24 hours.

How wet does Damprid look when it needs to be replaced/recharged?

i wouldn't put em on cardboard because it could absorb water, put em on a mesh screen above the dessicant.
wait till they are snap dry,it will happen.

cool, just make sure the mesh is about an inch above the dessicant.
you can also oven dry the used dessicant for about an hour on high and reuse it.
