LOSS OF INTEREST IN BANDS YOU USED TO WORSHIP

remember when you were a kid and you worshipped a certain band, but as you got older you thought to yourself: "man, these guys really suck, what was i smoking?"
sometimes, your old favorites were so crappy, you hate to admit it to yourself and have been in denial...until to today
it's time to admit you bought that Limp Bizkit album, or were a huge follower of Weird Al (heh heh weren't we all?)
also it would be interesting to see which are the bands you still listen to from when you were a kid.
the only bands to survive from my childhood that i still enjoy on a daily basis are Tool and Type O Negative
-------------------- And then at night I would wonder: Had I been wasting all my time enjoying the sweet taste of Tennasse bourbon, brownest of the brown liquors? Where was my girlfriend? Where was my car? Who's bed was I lying on? Which state was I in? And I got that sad feeling to make me cry...

i feel the same way ...
however, on a similar note, bands i have burnt out from listening too much dont excite me much anymore either (ie: pink floyd) ... i can still 'love' their music, but i can't listen to it very much because it doesn't have the same impact ...

i used to LOVE marilyn manson now, as my tastes in music have changed drastically, i just respect him and don't listen to his music except for what i hear in commercial media.
and yes i bought 3 Dollar Bill Ya'll and thought it fucking rocked. i was a huge Korn fan for the first three albums. i think a combination of me getting older (into my late teens ) and them sucking a lot more is what led me stop caring about them.

I was into metal for awhile. In my freshman year school picture I have on my trusty megadeth tshirt complete with flannel. Ahh the 90's. Megadeth, Pantera, Sepultura, etc etc etc...

hey at least RATM had a conscious and political style whereas all those other groups were just whining about their abusive fathers, girlfriends, and therapists.

I like almost all the bands I used to love when I was a young kid. The Doors have been my favorite band since I was like, 12, and still are...

Heh, I used to be a Manson fan myself. Also, Nirvana used to be my favorite band. And I once owned a Bon Jovi album. And there's too many rap artists to list.

My first concert was..... yes....
Billy Ray Cyrus.
I.... I was in 4th grade, and my mom and grandma were going, and I wanted to go with... the only music I was really exposed to back then was my mom's country.
However, the first song I ever remember even listening to was Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water. The seed was planted.
I eventually discovered my dad's Aerosmith - Get A Grip cd and his John Lennon (fuck, i think it was a best of or something) cd. I don't feel sorry for either of these, at least John Lennon wasn't country.
Then I discovered my dad's METALLICA cds. HELL FUCKING YEAH! No loss of interest there.
My first twelve cds were from Columbia House (sixth grade). I can't remember them all now, but there was like AC/DC Back in Black and Guns N Roses' Appetite for Destruction. There wasn't enough metal on the sticker sheet, and I asked a friend if he knew any good ones. He pointed out Savage Garden, chumbawamba, and Natalie Imbruglia. I actually even listened to them for awhile, but they didn't fucking last long....
But yeah, most of the music that I used to listen to that I lost interest in were shitty bands that were the only things I was exposed to. The good ones I still listen to. Peace.

I used to listen to alot of nu-metal.....I honestly thought bands like Slipknot and Mudvayne were as heavy as it got....i was very wrong. When I found out what real metal was nu-metal became obsolete, Don't get me wrong though, I was never one of those fuckers whom called themselves "maggots" or shit like that, I always thought that was stupid.

I used to really be into Limp Bizkit when they were still underground around here. As a matter of fact, the cover of Three Dollar Ball Y'all is a modified version of a graffiti piece a FOAF did. (He recieved no compensation or recognition whatsoever.
They still sucked ass even before they went mainstream. I can't believe I used to listen to them.

I've dropped a lot of bands over the years. I don't hate them all now, but I certainly don't listen to them anymore.
Bon Jovi - This was back in the 80s. mind you. I'm not talking about post-"New Jersey" Bon Jovi. (Not that the pre- was any good anyway).
Weird Al - Any 10 year old would like this shit. Maybe.
Michael Jackson - I am not ashamed to say I liked Thriller and Beat it and even Bad, but anything after that is poo. In fact, I still like that old stuff, but all my MJ is on cassette, so I don't listen to it.
Bush - Yikes.
Alanis Morissette - I liked Jagged Little Pill and still think it's a classic, but I haven't put it in for years now. Last time I listened to it I didn't like it. Don't like her last couple albums either.
Oasis - They did have their day. Admit it.
Creed - (Shudder) I thought something fresh and new was on the horizon when I first heard My Own Prison (Shudder)
The Offspring - Used to be my favourite band. Smash really kicked ass. Now I think it's all poo. I still like a few of their really early songs though.
Smashing Pumpkins - I one day realized that they only had one good album. (That would be Siamese Dream. Mellon Collie had a few good songs. Mostly crap. Machina was just an all out tragedy.
Ozzy Osbourne - Was into Ozzy briefly when The Ozzman Cometh came out. Now I think everything he's ever done without Black Sabbath is shite.
Korn - Meh. Had its day. Inspired some terrible bands. Made a terrible album or three. Lost interest. Meh.
I NEVER LIKED LIMP BIZKIT THOUGH! HAH!
NOFX, MXPX and their ilk - Too many to mention. They all sucked except Lagwagon.
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Don't get me wrong. They made some great music. They just made too much not-so-great music. I liked Californication once upon a time. Still like Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Never liked By the Way. No longer listen to any of it.
I could probably think of a million more, but why? Good post though.
---------- PS - I'm back.
