I've also cut out trich on quite a few tubs that were past the 3rd or 4th flash with good success, but obviously it is going to depend on the severity of the contamination. I make sure to salt paste the sporulated trich before operating, as to minimize spreading contaminant spores.
Trich can rear it's head in two ways: 1) It can pop up in an isolated spot IE: growing on an abort or weakened part of mycelium 2) It can surface and sporulate, but ultimately is growing throughout your entire substrate.
Operating during incidence 1 will often times yield total success. Operating during incidence 2 will not, though it may buy you enough time to finish a flush. In the event of 2, I suggest salt pasting rather than cutting, cutting will often just speed up the sporulation of trich.

Very well put. Since my substrates have often been weak with bacteria, trich ran all through, and covering rather then cutting became my go-to. A healthy sub which made it to 3 and 4 flushes used to be able to survive cutting well, its just been so long since i've seen a healthy sub like that

yeah you just have to be careful when removing and cutting. i cant count the number of tubs ive saved and had killer flushes even after the first flush with a dunk between each flush. so if the contams were still present then a dunk would surely skyrocket the contam yet i dont get that issue and generally get several healthy flushes. for me its about catching the contam before it gets out of hand and removing it. also ive had years and years of practice.
