Upgrade beyond metal vegetable steamer
    #20831362 - 11/13/14 10:14 AM (9 years, 4 months ago)

So i screwed up my PF jars. Which is embrassing, cause PF tek is quite easy.

This is a case and point that the right supplies are needed to do this hobby correctly!!

So what happened was i couldnt find my metal vegetable steamer. I had two and lost both somehow. So, to improvize, i used lids from pots that i put into my boiling pot. I added plently of water (cause sometimes i run out of water too quick) and i put my jars in.

Its been 4 days and there is no growth. And i know why. The jars were too close to the water, and water got splashed into the PF jars under the tin foil caps i had. Now the jars have too much water and are basically ruined.

i was never really happy with the uneven, short height of the metal vegetable steamer anyway.

Does anyone know any steam-safe alternatives/upgrades to a metal vegetable steamer?

I was imagining a mini round stainless table with 4 legs, about a foot tall and had a screen tabletop surface.

Cant find one in stores around here :mad2:

Thanks for your help.

I used to just use a big pot with a couple dishrags on the bottom. Why don't you just buy a pressure cooker? I promise it's 100% worth it.

i dont really like PCs.

Too loud and tricky to get the water level right.

Plus, i have misophonia, and that doesnt help with listening to the PC Steam.

the PC I linked to has a water level mark inside you fill to and it lasts a 4hr run if needed so no guess work with that.

its very quite because instead of letting it spew steam out the rocker you adjust so its not building that much and stabilize the pressure to hold at 15psi.
if your rocker is hissing youre loosing moisture from your jars so if you PC correctly you shouldnt have noise issue. :smirk:

you dont need to listen if you have :eyeball::eyeball:
it has a pressure gauge so you set your flame to stop at 15 psi then start your timer.

any other excuses to get out of it?  I'll shoot them down also until you have no excuse left :stoner:

My all american that I have (electric 25x)  noise compared to a standard PC is substantially less the only noise I notice is in the start when your letting the starting steam out.

yeah the all americas don't have much noise at all because you build up pressure and then close it off but you do  have to allow the air that was in there and not sterile to escape for a little bit first but besides that you just look at the gauge

he is talking about an all american electric pressure cooker. also referred to as a stereoclave. anything from all american will suffice, they kick ass.

for the steam escaping in the beginning, just wear earplugs.

I kinda wonder if it would be better to just own a few Presto 23qt PCs instead of one really nice all american. I mean you could buy 4 for under 300 bux, and could run 36qts at once!
