the OH REALLY factor
    #2082921 - 11/08/03 02:58 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

O'Reilly's "no spin zone" motto is clever marketing-- but who's keeping track of O'Reilly's own spin? From his support for Bush's tax cuts and a war with Iraq to his attacks on everything from National Public Radio to "welfare mothers," O'Reilly consistently concocts evidence to support his conservative talking points. Sometimes it's even hard to keep track of O'Reilly's opinions: after the September 11 attacks, he advocated devastating bombing against civilian targets in a number of countries, including Libya ("Let them eat sand."). Questioned about it a few weeks later, O'Reilly was spinning: "I never said bomb a civilian. I would bomb military targets. I would bomb military targets.... I'm not talking about civilians."

O'Rielly's debate tactics summed up:

When someone else's opinion doesn't exactly match his he proceeds to to yell at them, call them childish names, and cut the interview.

--------------------
People think that if you just say the word "hallucinations" it explains everything you want it to explain and eventually whatever it is you can't explain will just go away. It's just a word,it doesn't explain anything...

I noticed that, most people that have no point resort to mocking and name calling.

He is a weird one.

When he is by himself in the studio and talking straight to the
viewer, his thoughts and opinions are articulate and
reasonable. When he has a guest on who he disagrees with, he
yells and bullies, which is disappointing. I think he is an
intelligent man who would be quite capable of reasoned debate,
but he just seems to get agitated to easily.

O' reilly is a sharp mother fucker. I think he gets his point across really clearly and his debate tactics may be a little degrading, but what is most political debate? You see worse more childish bullying in the presidentua debate.

Im not going to start a debate that will put me in a position of defending O'reilly. I dont want to rub shoulders with anybody especially over something as dumb as this. The guy definately is smart and you are more than welcome to criticize his views, but his show is the highest ranking on fox and I just want to know....if you despise him so much, Why do you bother watching his show?

I do agree he seems to be an intelligent man, but his bullying tactics just destroy any credibility he has for me... just my .02 cents.

here is a review

"Oh, Wonderful! The Truth at Last!
I have a sister who is a huge fan of O'Reilly's. She kept saying I should watch the show, so I did. And my mouth fell open in disbelief!
I could NOT BELIEVE how this guy distorts facts, (actually CREATES "facts"!) shouts down his guests, and out-and-out lies about current events.

After watching for a few weeks (I wanted to give him a fair chance), I told my sister I think she must be mentally ill if she believes anything this bully says.

This book was a welcome look at the REAL O'Reilly. I've sent it to my sister in hope of helping her see the truth."

I really am interested in these examples you speak of)?

Well maybe what he meant was the examples are at the site.

Even if he wasent rascist everything else he says serves the rich, I often find it funny how people cling to beliefs that are RIGHT NOW in power.(Free market...or what they are calling the free market.)

When the evidence is free trade etc IS NOT working, at least not for the majoirty of people, it IS however working for a small minority,Oh Reilly isnt worried he will be fine, the question is, what will happen as more and more americans lose their jobs ??

Like I have said, the service industry is the biggest growing industry and Manufacturing is leaving faster then ever.

Does the average american want to work at walmart???, dont get me wrong I am not naieve , I know that in a capitalist system,at least what we CALL capitalism today, which is NOTHING like adam smith wanted , I know that in this system their will be SOME that work the low paying jobs, but these policies only seem to deepen the plight of workers.

Approval rattings dont last forever:)

If the poor of America are in such terrible straits, why do they
have TV's, cars, roofs over their heads, and oftentimes excess weight
on their guts? America's poor live like kings in comparison to most
of the rest of the world.

Like I have said, the service industry is the biggest growing

The service industry is growing fast because that is what the
consumer, i.e. us, is demanding. Manufacturing is leaving because we
as consumers demand low prices. There are people in this world who
are willing to work for much less than we will. Therefore we have a
lot of our stuff produced in other countries, which means lost jobs
here but it also means cheaper prices for goods. All of these bad
economic things that happen are caused by consumers, not by
corporations.

No, it is caused by the corporations.

The corporations choose if they want to lower their prices, we don't choose it. It's basic human nature to want to pay the lowest price possible. When you're out shopping and you see something that's priced lower, you don't consider it's economical effect or how it's effecting peopel in the 3rd world country, you just buy it. It's the corporations that give us this option in teh first place. The consumers are but pawns.

I suggest for the good of all those people in third world countries that we stop buying things that are produced by them. Think of it, no more 'slave wages' nor more 'sub-standard' working conditions, no more children working in factories, no more 'exploitation' by the corporations. They can go back to the paradise they had before all the 'evil capitalists' decided to employ them.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers
