Hey just went out looking again and found a whole patch of cool ass lookin mushrooms (at least 20). Also next to the patch found a lone mushroom that looks slightly different, and one just like it about 50 yards away (by itself).
a. Habitat (where and what does it grow on) We found these growing on a golf course, but more specifically growing next to a large tree that was surrounded by fern plants. They were in a patch of 20 all together growing under and off what looked like a dead fern plant. The area was well shaded by the tree and the ground was moist with dirt.
b. Characteristics of the gills (color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc) Gills were White, attached, they were gills, not pores.
c. Measurements of cap and stem.
Cap = about 1 1/4 inch wide. Stem = about 2 1/4 inch long.
d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc)
They seem pretty solid, but when we break or squeeze the stem it feels slightly hollow...i dont even know if that makes sense but ok. Color = white. Texture = smooth . Thin stem.
e. Characteristics of the cap (color, texture, concical/spherical, convex/concave, etc)
Very light brown getting slightly darker towards center. smooth texture on cap and you can almost see the gills on the other side.
f. Spore print color (very important!) just picked em, making one now... (do white gilled mushrooms even drop spores??) g. Color that the mushroom briuses Does not bruise
h. Scent of mushroom
Does not have scent of a woman (thats for sure). Smells like a mushroom ;P
looks like, and would seem to key out to, Marasmius oreades [the common, edible fairy ring mushroom].
i am in no way certain about it, so consumption is not warranted at this time but wait for confirmation or affirmation from another, more skilled identifier.
where any of the caps umbonate, at least the younger ones?
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
