serious cactus rot problems.
    #2081480 - 11/07/03 05:49 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

the rot continues. 2 out of the 3 are now infected. one's got a rotting patch along the side where it was once cut, the other has rot creeping up from the bottom. it doesn't look like the rot is going to be stopped.

what should i do?

do i need to amputate?

how do i go about fixing this?

Is it orange rot spots which grow? Or is the rot a dark brown or black? Does it look only skin deep and drill inward or does it start inward and work it's way outward? What kind of cacti is the rot infecting?

they're san pedros. there are some little orange\brown spots that start out not looking too bad, then get nasty. the rot got dark brown\black and looks like it's going from the outside in.

the surface of all the cacti i have are spotted with little tan spots too that are getting bigger and don't seem healthy. they start out looking kindof like tiny little tan barnacles.

cut out the infected areas if they're small, if they're big, cut a little away from the visible bad area...
keep it _dry_.

The tan spots are usually scabs. If you notice that when you cut out some orange rot then the cacti forms a tannish brown scab. I would cut all orange and black rot spots out and then let the cacti heal. Kep it dry like felixhigh said. How have you been watering these cact? You should bottom feed with a container large enough to fit your pot and then let the water be soaked up through the airation holes in the bottom of the pot. Also, how often do you water? Do you midst them at all? This too might lead to your problem. Did they develope after you bought it, or has it begun recently?

i watered them once and i never mist them. one has rot creeping up from the bottom. i'm gonna have to chop that one and try to reroot it i think. another's going to have to have its head cut off. how do i do that?
