Canada's Prime Minister resigns...

It's the end of an era! I liked Chretian. His stuttering, ugly, speech-impaired(he really had a diagnosed speech impediment, plus his paralized side of his face)face was a welcome change compared to all the perfect-haired politicians on the world stage. Added a ton of charisma IMO. OTTAWA - Members of Parliament said their farewells to Prime Minister Jean Chr?tien Thursday, praising his passionate commitment to Canada. JEAN CHRETIAN

yeah that was sweet..
I have mixed feelings about him. In some ways he was entertaining and his heart seemed to be in the right place but then he'd backstab us all like sell CP Rail (a highly profitable crown corporation bringing canadians millions of dollars every year) to Americans not for the profit of Canadians, but to pay off his party's debt. And why doesn't anybody know that?
I sure don't look forward to Paul Martin, though. I hate him already.

I liked Cretien, but he wasn't anything near a "good" PM in my opinion.
I hope someone new comes on the stage, but I doubt it will hapen.

I would love to see Ralph Klein as the next Prime Minister...it's too bad that he has no interest in the position.

Ralph! hehe that would be funny
Have you guys noticed how Justin Trudeau keeps ending up in positions with people speculating on whether or not he'll one day run for prime minister? The media sure likes to hype that up, but I doubt it'll happen.

Then we'd have the most liquor stores per capita in the world.
When I'm in Alberta, I marvel at the many, many liquor stores....lots of times there are ones conveniently located right next to or connected to the gas station on the highway out of town...
the visibly soused Premier wandered into a downtown Edmonton homeless shelter at one in the morning and berated the inhabitants for their unemployed state. He then scattered a fistful of coins on the floor, before storming out to his chauffeur-driven limo. The next day a tearful Klein admitted that he likes a drink. Ralph's love of the bottle is well known.
After his flirtation with booze became national news, Klein quickly went public with his problem in an effort to win popular sympathy. 'I think I have the ability to fight this devil and win', he said. After the press conference he invited reporters to attend his holiday open house featuring free beer and wine.

That was thanks to the privatization of the liquor stores...Which is much better in my opinon...Cheaper prices, More locations, Longer hours. (open until 2)

I'm sorry to say it RONO, but I don't see that privatization has brought cheaper prices. It also has destroyed many well paying public sector jobs and replaced them with minimum wage jobs. (Alberta has the lowest minimum wage in Canada, btw. Thanx Ralph)
If any benefit has come of it, it is the benefit gained by family owned, local business. That seems to be the state of the industry mostly, but, that's to Ralph's right wing model, I predict that the booze-store industry will eventually condence down to a small cartel of mega-stores...
I know that may come as a shock to you, the lower price thing that is...but from my experience, booze is cheaper in Saskatchewan and BC, with their public systems...that and the workers get a living wage plus pension...
Alberta booze stores have the odd good sale on something though, and Lucky Lager is real cheap, so, maybe you can get pissed cheap cuz one thing is on sale, but other than that, selection is worse (me thinks) and prices are higher.
Alberta is such a boozin province! I used to live in Calgary in the mid 90's, there were free beer hours at some bars! Or else those 25cent hi-balls at the Republic on customer appreciation nights?
Ye-Haw!

Can someone fill me in on Canadian politics? Like what were some of Chretian's policies?

yeah.. "marijuana decrim" let's all hope it doesn't go through (and I'm pretty sure it won't).
Chretien sorta halfheartedly had some ideas sorta that maybe would almost kinda go somewhat in a certain direction kinda. That about sums it up. Gay marriage and marijuana decrim (sorta). No war on Iraq (sorta.. except for a few battleships but they aren't really in the war kinda a bit maybe but not much).
