pmp question, does the air pump need to be on a timer?

i've searched through every pmp post i could find and i still couldn't figure this out. does the air pump need to be on a timer or does it run continuously? if so, what kind of timing schedule should it be set to? thanks

Find out your pumpsout put in gallons of air per hour and compare that figure with the size of your pod in gallons,aim to have atleast 4 total air exchanges each day.

my pump is a "whisper 40". it's suppose to pump like 20-40 gallons/hour. i haven't got my tub yet, i will get whatever size is almost completely clear or at least with a clear lid. i'll post back with the size later today.

Run it as much as you can, as long as your chamber doesn't dry out or the casing dries out, you'll be fine.

I used to run an aquarium pump 24/7, and it didn't effect humidity levels. Plus, I feel the fresh air circulated into a fruiting chamber with a CASING is much more beneficial.

IF your using cakes, it would be more beneficial to just NOT have a pump and concentrate keeping the humidity up as high as possible until you start seeing knots, then upping the air circulation.

With casings, your humidity is higher near the mycelium because of the moist casing medium.

Another thing is to just make 2 1" holes on either side of the chamber and fill with polyfill/tyvek or a fine mesh. you'll get increased air exchange, and your mushrooms will grow to be bigger.

afoaf is going to be using their pmp for cakes. will water and geolite, with a floro on 12/12, provide the environment to fruit? would you suggest i just wait to hook up the timer/pump until i get pins forming all over them? afoaf thanks you

p.s. how would you suggest cleaning used geolite for use in a pmp? or should they just buy new geolite?

Run the airpump 24/4. That is what the PMP was designed for.

I just rinse it off in hot water and have never had a problem.

your setup sounds like mine. i have a clear rubbermaid type of container with the air pump going 24/7 and a little flouro on a timer for 1/2 an hour every 4 hours, and now i have pins so it works pretty well. thanks magash!
