contams good????
    #2079740 - 11/07/03 05:06 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

i have noticed on many occasions where i had filter patch bags that contamed after i spawned them. when the bags recovered, they were the most massively fruiting bags that i have ever had.

i am thinking about culturing the contam to see if i can identify it. then, inject a weak version of it into the bottom of a bag, after the initial spawning.

has anyone else seen this happen?

Most of my contamned bags were bad, but sometimes the mycellium really takes over. Maybe if it's strong enough to beat the contamns then it's more likely that it will fruit well.

I suppose it depends on the contam, if its bacterial
theres a theory that one of the fruiting triggers in
cold fruiting mushrooms is that soil bacteria die on
mass at the end of summer, allowing enuff food to facilitate fruiting, so somthing simular could be happening in you bags.

You mentioned in chat, that the contams you are suffering are
the smelly kind  so this also points to bacteria.

Zeronio turned me onto something called fermentation of
substrate at 55?c for 12 to 24 hours, this allows certain
bacteria that thrive at those temps to outcompete other
possible contams, then the substrate cools so these hight
temp lovers go dormant or die off leaving endospores.

I have good result using this method, but i give the substrate
a 200?c burst at the end, just to make sure its sterile.

so its an interessting thing youve noticed in your bags imo.
