Can Woodlovers grow on old Apple wood?

So there is a lot of old apple trees in my area.
I was wondering if woodlovers like cyans or stunzii would grow on rotting apple wood.
Thanks - LC

yes i have a small cyan patch that grows in an apple orchard but on one far end where the trees are dying from over moist ground. there is much tall thick grass in the area too bring a stick to poke around. look for where the broken branches are tossed and decaying.

I know that you should take caution when picking mushroom in Apple orchards because cyanide builds up in the soil from apples seeds. I'm not sure about the wood itself though. I think that it would probably be okay... Spawn plugs might work better than spraying them with LC IMO, keep the mycelium on the wood as long as you can.

good to know! never noticed any ill symptoms. seems they might be eating the dead grass as much as the wood, wonder if the grass filters some of the cyanide out before it becomes food. they sure dont flourish there but i found a dozen or so the last few years.

It's not cyanide building up, it is arsenic from when they used to spray them over 50 years ago. It's not a problem unless you eat huge amounts over many years.
