1st hunt of the season. No mushrooms, but some insects!
    #2078285 - 11/06/03 09:35 PM (13 years, 30 days ago)

Well, I went out on a Mushroom Hunt today. I didn't find A SINGLE mushroom. Maybe because its still too early and Im just too excited to wait around.

Since it was a mushroom hunt, I'll post some pictures of what I did find...

Well, I first ran into this wood scorpion:

Then this nifty spider:

A purty butterfly!

A scary electric beetle!!

Here is a view from one spot:

And deep into the tanoak and madrone forest:

Thats my mushroom hunt... hah.

Your camera takes some crazy macro shots. We've got those same scorpions out here in Georgia... they're small. Their sting still hurts like hell though. I've been stung 3 times... guess thats what I get for picking them up.

I've only found a few scorpions here, yes, pretty small. Since there wasn't any mushrooms (except for the usual turkey tails), I decided to break up some wood and whatnot to see what I could find!

The rain is coming down, but, geez, its been so damn dry around here.

hehe, hiyas Angryshroon :]

I think you are a bit early! I was able to find some dungbells in my backyard, but only becuase it's covered in horse crap... and it gets watered by sprinklers. nothing anywhere else, I think it'll be a week or more until our friends start poping up!

This is exciting, the first real rain of the year...right now!  I just came inside, i'm soaked but i don't mind. this is my favorite season of the year; i love the dark ominous rainclouds that roll over the redwoods.

ooooh, i plugged some logs last year with plurotis, i'll have to check them frequently. oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Who's gona find the first edible eh Angry?
Wanna make a wager???

yeah looks a lot like wilder ranch to me..

used to live on campus, i've done a lot of exporing
round those parts.. just looked really familiar.

actually, a friend and i used to take regular
fungus forays into that area, never found anything
REALLY interesting  but found plenty of death
caps heh..

alas, now i am downtown and have to ride a bus
to the forest :frown: :frown:

Well, I was back in Boulder Creek, but pretty close...The Boulder creek is much wetter than Wilder.

You say you didnt have much luck?! I could estimate that I found well over 200 species just last winter. Not to mention thousands of mushrooms. Liberty caps and Panaeouls subbalteatus are the only actives...Unless we get lucky and find some Ps. cyanescens.

But we have plenty of edibles! King/queen boletes, chantrelles, horn of plentys, cauliflower mushrooms, Prince mushrooms, Blewits, Coccora's Amanitas, oysters...geez, how many more?

I found some gnarley Red shrooms by lower campus.

Both you and I posted pics last year of the same species, forgetting its name though... lots of them around however.

nothing in the west field yet....!
