no citizen may be deprived of their freedom or property without first being convicted of doing likewise to another citizen.

yeah, the only problem would be 200 years later when politicians weren't respecting it or were getting creative with their definitions of words like "citizen", or "freedom", or "deprived".

see... you're asking for constructive answers here. you're asking for 'yes' suggestions. what SHOULD we do as opposed to what SHOUDN'T we do...
there's little room for bashing of george bush, the republican party, america, or capitalism... only for actual constructive suggestions... which is why i'm sorry if maybe i'm going to end up derailing this thread with this comment, but i don't think you'll get many on-topic responses anyway. we'll see.

That's why they love to call the constitution 'a living document.' It spares them from having to follow the intent as it was written. I'd like to get a home loan contract that was a 'living document,' then I could re-interpret it every few years to my benefit and screw the other parties to the contract.

Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

well... if your loan had clauses in it detailing the ways in which it would be altered and ammended, then maybe it would be a living document in the way that the constitution is... what those politicians don't understand (or choose to ignore) is that the constitution is not "living document" in the sense that its text can be redefined or selectively observed depending on the times, but only that it can be amended if needed through a prescribed legislative process. in any event, they do not abide by even the words of the constitution, much less the spirit, which is what's most important anyway.

if you ask a libertarian what law they would make and they respond, a law against laws besides those governing protection, its hardly a surprising response.

Ok, so it needs some revising, but it's a rough draft, ok? But I don't think that law would conflict with drunk driving laws because those laws deal with what you do while on said substance, rather than what substances you can consume.

TaoTeChing asks:

You didn't ask about laws, you asked for proposed constitutional amendments. Silversoul7 gave you one.
You will notice there is no mention of drinking and driving in the Constitution. It is not against the law to get piss drunk and drive all you want on your own property. However, if you are to be given permission to drive on publicly-constructed streets which are publicly-owned property, one of the conditions that must be met is that you refrain from being intoxicated. Another is that you must have a valid driver's licence. You must also have valid insurance, a current vehicle plate, a vehicle that meets various safety and emission standards, etc.

yes but that amendment would supercede the laws so one would want to be careful.

I may be mistaken, but I think it is illegial. Could be wrong so don't quote me on that.

As I said, drunk driving laws prohibit certain activities while intoxicated. They have nothing to do with what one may consume.
