How long can you keep sterile grain jars?

Once they're PC ed what's the longest I should leave them around before I inoculate?
I mean Ideally id drop my wedge in right after they cool but if I prep too much rye and have extra jars what's the longest I should keep them for?
A re they clean to use u ntill the moisture content goes?

Generally if you prepped them right yes. I've used jars that were about a month old. They were a bit dry but otherwise fine.

Not saying you did this, but most people tend to have over saturated jars after the PC cycle and you'd be wise to have them dryer rather than wet. How long are you planning to leave them?

Thanks for the input!
I cooked these jars last night, I was lazy today and didnt feel like doing my G2Gs. I could stretch my masters to do all the jars but Id rather save the extra jars till my clone masters are ready, maybe a week
But yea the question of shelf life came up and I figured I might as well ask so I know right

A week is probably fine. You're only concern should be surviving spores germinating. You want your mycelium to get a foothold before anything else.

Right, so a week should be fine. Just inoculate asap.

If those jars are properly sterilized, sealed and your lab's sterile equilibrium is maintained those jars should never contaminate. Over time the sterlized grains will lose their moisture content though.
It's always best to leave a few sterlized mediums in your lab uninoculated anyways. This helps to show you where your vectors of contamination are open should you have any open.

I have the weights of my jars including filters written on them all. On the jar I also write the weight of the finished jar with the grain in it.
This way if it dries out at all I know the original weight and can inject water to compensate. I am often adding large amounts of myc water so need to know moisture levels.

Oh boy, I didn't think about this and made a bunch at once and won't use them in time. Could I re-saturate the grain and re-sterilize them (or something like that)? If so what should I do exactly?

I first put my agar wedges in sterile water and shake the sh%t out of them. With this I inoculate my jars. If they are on the dry side, just pour in a bit more. Could be an option for you too. If the jars are proper sterile its shouldn't matter how long you wait then. I like this method as the colonisation of the jars is much faster than with intact agar wedges.
