Taking the sample from right inside the white growth edge has always worked well for me, it's never taken long to see growth at all.

Mrcloudy said: I believe it to be resinaceum due to its morphology, Species in the G.resinaceum group tend to grow sessile (without a stipe) often with overlapping tiers. This fits the resinaceum morphology that I have observed. Tsugae is most commonly found on conifers, tends to be more bulbous and more often than not has a stipe. Its context will be a white color while resinaceum will be brown. Ganoderma ludicum has not been reported from North America. Sequencing of some North American 'lucidum' samples came back as being closer related to G.resinaceum than to G.lucidum which was originally described from England but has been widely misidentified throughout the world. It is now thought that it is largely restricted to Europe with possible extension into Asia, but more research has to be done due to morphological discrepancies.
good to know nice find, bodhi. good job on the cultures. do you think grinding up sawdust and putting a little in agar would help with any transfer shock you might experience?

found another resinaceum about a mile away on a oak that looked very healthy.
I have a PP5 with sawdust I tried inoculating without spawn and just an agar wedge. I don't have high hopes for it but until I get a new gasket for my PC I can't do grain spawn and I'm so broke 15$ is too much right now

it's colonizing pretty damn quickly. these are rye verm and coir jars. I'll use it as spawn to either pasteurized or sterilized sawdust.
I also have a jar of just sterile sawdust I put some agar into and that seems to be colonizing as well

These were the best I could do, I put my lens on backwards so it's like a microscope but the field of few is less than a millimeter so it's hard to get a completely flat section to make everything in focus.

Great idea! those are some badass pics!
Your gonna get a shitton of NICE fruits, I absolutely love the tea now! Its gotta be warm thought, for me, it seems to be soothing, and relaxing to me, I'm afraid to make the tincture, my last drinking episode proved what I already knew, alcohol is BAD news for me, this is the only place where I can see where it maybe useful, but I'm not risking it.
BTW, you going for conks, or antlers?

idk, does resinaceum make antlers, I would imagine it would but the conks look quite different than most of the other Ganodermas
I could go for antler conks

The photo in my signature is resinacuem antlers. They form conks more readily than other species though, and often less well formed.

just "cased" the jar I had going with some sterilized sawdust. 1/3cup with 1/3 cup water. I poured it right ontop and then shook the fuck out of the jar so it's all around the coir/verm/rye cake
