Jars Too Dry...My Whole Procedure....WHAT DID I DO WRONG?

Alright...I recently went out and got some brown rice flour, vermiculite, and some 1/2 pint jars.
I mixed 4 cups verm/2 cups rice/ and 4 cups water. I then put that mix into 4 1/2 pint jars, covered the tops in verm, and sealed them shut. I put a paper towel at the bottom of a small pot and put two of the jars into the pot. I brought the pot to a boil through medium-high heat and then covered the pot with a plate, and turned the heat down to low-medium and let the jars boil for 60 minutes excatly. I did the exact same thing with my other 2 jars.
Once the jars were cool to the touch I took them out, and left them alone for 2 days. They didn't get contams, so I proceeded to punch three holes and innoculate some B+ spores into them. I put them in an aquarium with a heating pad, and some carboard. The temp reads 87'F on the bottom where the jars are.
It's day six and there is no growth. Whats the problem????
The day after the jars were steralized I looked at the jars and the jars seemed very dry. It looked like the flour and the verm were cooked together. Looks like a cake, the particles were loose it looked like they were all stuck together. I asked people if this was normal and they said yes. But after looking at pictures of other jars mine didn't look like that. Was the way I sterlized wrong??? Should I see moisture in the jars after sterelizing??? Whats wrong with my procedure if anything???
Any help would be appreciated!!

I wouldn't have waited 2 extra days for the inno, that allows more time for contams to set in. Innoc right after the temp of jar drops below 100f. Second I would have punched the holes before the sterilization process, which also cuts out the possibility of contam. If you want, just leave a "blank" jar which you don't innoculate. Other than that just wait and have patients, also post a pic; that always helps.

first...after you cooked..you then PUNCHED holes..in the regular guide..your supposed to have holes for air circulation..when you cook the jars..some water is going to evaporate from inside the jars...with out the holes...you might have cooked the substrate
also ..something i learned a hard lesson on...TEMP while incubating...always check your temps...my fish tank heater said it was 86 degrees,..when in reality,..it was more like 96 degrees...two days later..a fermenting smell over took my incubator..and i had to throw all my jars away..
sometimes..with BRF jars...it takes more then 6 to 7 days for mycelium to show itself...mine came out at like 9 or 10 days...

The reason that I wait after sterilaztion is that I don't want to waste spores. See if the sterilizatoin wasn't succesful and the cake goes bad, its not a problem because I can just make a new one. However if I would have innoculated and the cakes goes bad I lose spores. If there are no contams growing after sterilization then you at least know you did a good job there.
My biggest question was about the subtrate. Should it look all baked and clumped together or should it be airy???

This is kind off what it looks like. However there is much more brittle stuff all around. It looks more whiter...

And I should ass that the bottom is tottaly covered with that....
So the subtrate might have been cooked?? PUNCHING HOLES AT THE START IS NECESSARY???

If this is your mix "4 cups verm/2 cups rice/ and 4 cups water" You have twice the water your suppose to have.
Next time try 4 cups verm then mix in the 2 cups of water then add the 2 cups of brf. Do it in that order. When you do it you?ll see why for sure.
but what do I know about cakes.

I'm sorry that was an error on my part it was 2 cups verm 1 cup flour 1 cup water.... The subtrate could hold a ball but did not drip when it was made...

You can try injecting a bit of water. Boil the water, fill a syringe, let cool. And then try giving each cake a few cc's. And yeah, that looks right. But as they said, you may have cooked all yer nutrients. You may be trying this all over. But try the water and see if it does anything. You have nothing to lose.
