Automatic timer for ultrasonic humidifier
    #2078007 - 11/06/03 07:58 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

A friend of mine would like to find some kind of a timer that will, say, go on for 20 seconds, off for 20 minutes, on for 20 seconds, and so on, to power his humidifier. Does anyone know of a good timer to do this, part number, cost, etc? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I've been looking for the same thing for my cool mist humidifier, but Im thinking of just running it 24/7. What I have found are "recycling timers" just search for that at electronic/hydroponic retailers. The down side is that they are pricey. If anyone knows of a good programable timer for under 30 bucks Id love to know the brand/model.

Just get a timer like you would use to turn the lights on and off when you're on vacation. I think they're only like 5 bucks.

A cheep one will only do like half hr increments. a digital one will do down to the min. I can program 15 seperate cycles on mine. I think the digitals are 15-20 bucks.

This may be worth a look

The Intermatic is also invaluable with its minute increments.

this might be exactly what you're looking for. i haven't been able to find a good enough description or a close-up enough picture to determine exactly how it works. its inexpensive, lets you set intervals as often as 15 minutes... but i'm not sure exaclty what that means! i think the three outlets must rotate, like "1" is on for 15 minutes, then "2" is on for 15 minutes, "3" is on for 15 minutes? its intended to make waves in an aquarium though, so it seems more reasonable that it goes on for short burts at that interval, which is what we're looking for... its inexpensive though and worth a trip to a pet store to see if it or something similar will do the trick.

No this is what you want. It is called a Cyclestat timer. Goes on for a set ammount of time (5 seconds to 30 minutes) goes off for a set ammount of time (7 minutes to 8 hours). Then repeats itself.

http://www.greenair.com/cyclestat.htm

This one is $125 but I have one by another brand that I bought for around $70. http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=RCT600

I currently use this with my ultrasonic humidifier.

I am going to switch over to another method so I can have the fans and humidifiers all idependently timed in relation to each other. I am using a X10 home automation system.

http://www.x10.com/activehomepro/activehome-pro.html

It uses your computer to set multiple timers and turn stuff off/on wirelessly. Once you get the software and module, extra wireless appliance modules are around 7 bucks. Plus everything is on the same clock which makes things easier. You only need the computer to do the initial programming.
