Any plastic bin. 1/4 in holes. 2in spacing. 3-4 inches of wet perlite at the bottom, added in increments (that last part is important, as anyone who has ended up with a bin full of perlite slush would know), and then patted down to make it nice and flat. Cakes (or whatever else) are put on lids or if it's a bigger tray, I would cut a paper cup in half, put it upside down, and voila, tray-stand (or naked trays, for massive side pins)

^ive used water bottles too. The best is actually an upside down wide-mouth 1/2 pint (the super wide ones that can't even be birthed). Those make great stands if you have them around. I love SGFC side-pinning, and I can't help but feel like there is more that is gotten out of it and it's healthier for the mushies than the neglect of a mono. I just said this before but it's like the difference between constantly giving your kid what they need or just sending them off on their own with all the food/water they need. SGFC mushies grow literally before your eyes, very slowly but I feel like they're growing about as fast as an hour hand moving on a clock. Monotubs, I feel like they're slower and less healthy, but it's shitloads less work and the same/similar results as far as yield and potency.
I think for stealth reasons as well as just ease if I did anymore cube projects in the future I'd go with mono, but if I really had the time, I think SGFC would be better. I'm kind of on myco-vacation for the winter though or just until I need to do that again. Not for a while probably.
Was thinking about looking into truffle species, though

They are awesome... Never grown them myself, but a friend did. What's better than growing stones, harvesting, then fruiting that same grain for some mushies! I think sclerotia are a brilliant thing...

Is that a pic of you Hashfinger?
Yeah I am having some fun with sclerotia. The wait is killing me though. Even though its not like I need them. Still I can't wait to bust them open.
RR says he prefers them over any other fungi as far as effects go and so do quite a few here.

How many months after full colonization do you prefer to harvest them pasty? Hopefully not too off topic

Not really a matter of preference more a matter of remembering that I have em in the first place
I just harvested a quart that must have been around 7 months old the other day. Stones got freakin huge

Yeah. I have harvested as early as three months but I will keep them in jars for up to nine, just so I can always have them fresh. After nine months, I harvest and dry if any remain.

Here's one for the "species" thread.
What's a good truffle producer to start with, out of the main 3 (Mexicana, Tampanesis, and Galindoi)
I hear galindoi is best but I am interested in Mexicana, because of all that teonanacatl stuff. Also, seems like good weather and time for year for Mexicana fruiting (from what I've read about growth parameters)

So far galindoi has proven to be my favorite. Mex has been a real bitch. I am doing tamps right now.

I am going to be ordering some spores. Right now i have chosen EQ Ecuador, Burmese Yangoon, and Brazil. My dilemma comes with the fact that i only want to get two syringes, so which of these strains should i let go based on speed of colonization, fruit size, and dependency? I know a cube is a cube is a cube, but opinions?

A cube is not a cube. But of all your particular choices, they're all the same.

As in the effects of the cubes listed? I've read here and there about different cubes having different effects mostly from random people's journal entries/posts, but have yet to find a good list with the subtle differences of each. Kind of like picking a good sativa over an indica kind of deal.

Yes in the effects of the ones listed. My experience: Golden teachers are my favorite. Strikingly visual. And they offer a lesson to learn. PE. Total mindfuck. Nothing learned but once on a 5 gram dose. PESA very colorful and consistently made me tiirrreed. Argentina is a classic cube. Good times with lots of laughter. This variety would compare with the ones listed as far as effects. Though all cubes grow the same, every variety has their own look to them and some vary in effects

Mex A is my favorite but Galindoi is verrrrrrry cool. Mex is a smoother trip. Galindoi is intense and visual.
