Lobsters/ Russulas?
    #20757225 - 10/26/14 08:42 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

All found in the Mendocino coastal forest in or around various pine and oak.

#1

Lobster? By itself near a bunch of Russula/Lactarius

#2

Can't tell if they are the same, but i'm guessing Russula emetica and/or R sanguinea? Snaps clean like your typical Russula chalk

# 3

Lactarius deliciouses?

#4

Couldn't gather much of these, just my footsteps near by caused one to fall over to mush.

Agaricus ginormicus? Haha.

1) lobster
2) http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Russula_sanguinea.html or something similar
3) http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Lactarius_alnicola.html
4 is an edible Agaricus, not sure if it is closer to A. augustus or something from the A. subrutilescens group.  Size suggests the former.

That was quick thanks! First lobster so I have no idea, is this one still viable to try and eat or too far gone? Doesn't feel rotten, rather firm actually. Fry and try?

Lobster mushrooms go bad quickly, but if they are firm and smell good they are worth eating.
