Any Glassblowers out there???
    #2074860 - 11/05/03 10:34 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Ive been reading alot latley and been talking to a local glass blower (hes fucked up tho) and i think im ready to start.

Im gonna start practicing on junk i can get from the university for cheap.
Like chemistry supplies and that kinda junk. Anything that says Pyrex.

I dont know what im realy asking for but id like any info from people who have any or extencive experiance in custom glass blowing..
Ive got a torch and lots of machining tools and full repair shop of tools, so i could make my own tools if i wanted?
Heres some questions off the top of my head

How important is a kilm?Does it just make the glass stronger? How strong?

Where did you start?Any links?Books?

What tools should i knwo about befor hand?
Iv got grafite bases and some stuff i could use as small molds

Do ul "blow" glass or just form it when just using an oxyactolene(sp)/oxygen.
Because i dont have a furnase.

Last one...
I have a wood heater which i heat my house with could that be altered to be made into a furnace or would it be too cold?

i dont know anything about glass working but i did find this site.
ecu.edu/chem/glassblowing/gb.htm  Just copy and paste the link and put www in front of it, i did that so you wouldn't be going to a edu site from the shroomery

EDIT sorry had to lose the link

Hi. I'm not a glass blower but my friend is. He has this awesome stuido with multiple torch stations. it rocks.

I got a friend as well who just built a house and made his garage his workshop with multiple stations. He had a gathering during the summer and I got to watch a lot of stuff being made. Its a very interesting hobby. I tripped on some LSD a few weeks after and had a great time just fishing through the broken and unused pieces. Some of the workings and colors were very intense, it made for a nice trip seeing all the colors twisted around.
