Psilocybe Cyanescens
    #2074236 - 11/05/03 05:44 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

Questions pertatining to P Cyan. cultivation -

First, TMC states that as spawn, either bran/sawdust or rye grain can be used. Will cracked corn work as spawn for this species?

Secondly, TMC states that the ideal material to spawn with this is wood chips. Will the bedding used for small rodents work for this? Should it be pasteurized? Drained? Can compost / animal feces be mixed with this to increase speed / potency / size?

Third, if the conditions are kept at ideal, will this be as prolific a fruiter as P Cubensis (Grown in bulk).

Fourth, what is the potency difference between p cubensis and ps cyanescens?

I appreciate your assistance.

You want to use Maple or Alder for a substrate. Maple seeds are good for a casing layer.

Maybe you would use the straw log idea and make a big woodlog with alder/maple for spawn.

Cyans are stronger then Cubes.

Sorry I have neglected this thread for a long period of time. Are the Psi. Cyanescens as prolific fruiters (per square foot, per flush, however you want to rate them) as P Cubensis? Thank you for the information

per square foot, yeah they can prolly be as prolific, but weight wise, i dont think they're going to compare to cubes, as cubes can be quite hefty in some cases.

Indoor yield potentials of P. Cyanscens haven't really been established.

Wait... Noone has grown them indoors? What is the measure that limits indoor growth? Just the cold temperatures?

They have been grown indoors by several people, but the effort compared with the ease of the outdoor cultivation makes the indoor cultivation little desirable.

I see. Well, let me posit something and tell me if you think it would be worth it.

A terrarium enclosed in ductboard that had an AC unit w/HEPA filter pushing 50 degree air around (not into!) the terrarium, and the terrarium was a regular PMP style terrarium that had been used sucessfully for fruiting P. Cubensis casings. The cyan mycelia had been grown out on some form of grain (as suggested by Stamets in TMC). The spawn is then used to spawn pre-wetted alder chips. Would this setup sucesfully yield enough, compared to cubensis, indoors, to make it worth while? Thanks anno.

Addendum: If the wood chips were soaked in a poop-soup (water mixed with animal waste, then filtered after simmering / stirring) thus giving the wood chips some nutrients from the waste, would there be any noticable effects?
