Many people have done just that with no problems, so by all means go for it. However, IMHO, I think adding equal parts verm to coco coir would be superior to regular verm since the coir holds much more water. Mix equal parts coir and verm with some lime (optional) and you'll be set. If you can't find coir in time regular verm is fine.

60/40 verm/coir works much better. A brick of coco-coir is is like 5 bucks at a pet store. It's called "bed-a-beast."

Any organic material, such as peat moss, is more subject to bacterial contamination.

Do a pure vermeculite casing. If you can find it, add coco coir to make a 50/50 mix.

Those are the two best casing materials IMO.

With peat, you'll need to add calcium carbonate to neutralize the pH.

I think this whole deal of calling it coir, has detered more people than it should have. Everyone should have just called it bed-a-beast or Frest-bed from the beginning, then people would be much more likely to get a hold of some. I knew I did as soon as I relaized what it was, because I use that very stuff for my tarantulas, and I already had some.
