Will life go on if i dont Patch?

Well my friend has two good looking casings that are coming up in small patches around the surfaces. He knew he should have saved some of that extra casing mix but did not. Will conformity in pinning be drastically affected if he chooses not to patch?

Just the plain stuff? You dont feel like that would negate any of the beneficial properties of the mix he made for the casing material (which does have some vermiculite). I guess what im saying is, do the pros of plain verm outweigh the cons of leaving it alone?

yes, the pros of plain verm do outweigh the cons of leaving it alone. More shrooms and an even flush.

I didn't patch my first casing and it turned out fine. It doesn't make a HUGE difference, however the pinset will be better if you patch, even with plain verm.

Yeah, it only takes a second, and you do end up with more mushrooms than if you dont.

Use a toothpick and move some of the casing layer around

Tried that before, and I don't recommend it. In my experience it just spread the casing layer too thin and the whole thing started to overlay. You'd be suprised at how much casing you dig up trying to just barely cover those little high spots.

ya youre right. . . . If hes going to do something he might as well do it right. Sometimes you just have to step back and look at the old kitty litter, the dirty dishes, and the overlayed casing and say "Damn, am I really that lazy?"

I have never patched. I have always had good results.
