Yeah I never had a problem with anything, I've had trouble getting germination from MS a couple times but I think it was bc fault of my own.Quote:

Guess I'll have to wait until I find some Pans again

You say each petri dish can only be used once? Why not just clean in hot soapy water then even place in a pot of boiling water for 10 or so minutes. Would hate to look in my trash can by the street and see 20+ petri dishes going to waste each week/every few weeks.
The idea of throwing out all those dishes is a bit disheartening but lots of things we use every day are disposable. When you take out your garbage do you just dump the bag out then wash it and put it back under the kitchen sink? After you clean your ears do you to wash off the Q-tip for later use? Probably not. Try to think of pertis as what they are disposable one time use items.

I like my plastic pre-sterlized dishes because I order them now in bulk (100+ dishes) all I have to do is open the bag and pour. Once I run out of these final 50 I'm giving pasty plates a try as well.
Glass petri's are expensive and have to be autoclaved after every use. My PC is running enough....... Now if I had some medical autoclave equipment..

hey Dilated, would you care if other members asked questions in your thread? this has been a great and informative read for someone who's starting to get into agar work. Along with Stro's and Pasty's thread's, us noob's will have some go to reading when beginning agar work.

Hey I'm doing prep work to begin my first slant journey. Is anyone using anything other than wood for long term storage of cultures? If not would be ok to use twigs found outside?

Haha it might work, but you can get like 100 of the half sized craft sticks for about $2.

I always think about using natural resources first, always worth trying If I have to use pretreated wood I'll just have a Popsicle fest
