i just realized that MABY (i have not lost hope jet) i will not find vermiculite where i live and have to order it through net. when i have to order the price is bit salty for me at the moment (at the places i found to order from) so my question is:

can i use anything else in cakes besides vermiculite, seriously !!??!!

thank you much

I wouldn't use perlite it's not the samething as vermiculite.Try looking here www.uline.com.This is the cheapest place I've found yet.
I know it's a lot of vermiculite but if your doing cakes you can never have to much.If you don't want that much try www.micronmagick.com.They also sell vermiculite for about $10.
I hope this helps.

Peat alone didn?t work bad for me, but expect some green mold sooner or later. If you use peat alone, get all the coarse pieces away.

if you cant find vermiculate why dont you give whole grains a shot. or wild birdseed for that matter... there is no need for vermiculite when using whole grains as substrate

Perlite works, its not as good as verm, and its nasty to work with imo. Grain is the way forward, although I still make cakes mainly as pressies.

If you plan on casing, then u need verm. If not, i agree with the rabbit- try WBS or whole grain teks. I couldnt find verm anywhere so i busted out the good old yellow pages and found a nursery close by.

BTW. If you have Frank's Nursery in your area, they have it.

those cheap places will not help, i know places in web that sell verm for a few bucks BUT i live in estonia and the shipping will cost about 125$ what is bit too much.

BUT no worries, i already found a country near me that will sell me vermiculite 4 euros 1 litre + 4 euros for delivery so i guess i will go with that.

thnx

$125....fuck me,why so much?
it doesnt way more than a feather?
i'd go with wbs its just as easy to do as long as you have a pc and allow to loose a couple of jars in a batch of 12.(i'm not that clean).you could be luckier.

Man I?m sorry about my sooner post, I thought we were talking about casings. Anyway, you can do cakes with whole brown rice grains and no vermiculite.
You said 1 litre verm = 4 euros+shipping? That sure is a robbery

The local taxi driver had lots of trouble finding vermiculate.
Check with garden shops such as a nursery.
He tells me you'll be happy with what you find.

the only reason it would cost that much to ship is if you had a dump truck load delivered
those big bags you see in the pictures cant weigh anymore then 5lbs
