a couple of my jars have slowed down very much(colonizing), to the point of almost stoped. This was my first atempt at making substraight and i think i made it too dry. what are my options. should i try to put a little pc'ed water in their or should i leave them alone or what. suggests are very apperceited.oh and i have tryed turning them over to help but to little avail. temp in my bin is 80-85.

What substrate? Vermiculite/BRF ?

If, then is there a tape over the inoculation holes?

A good measure of moisture in the jars is the appearance of the brownrice flakes on the bottom of the jars, if it's real moist the specs of brown rice appear smushed up against the glass and are foggy with lots of moisture around them, in appearnace they make the bottom of the jars look foggy. Anno is up, listen to him.

Ivan is thinking that it's brf since it's drying out, and the characteristics are more obvious with BRF. Ivan keeps a little bit of water and a sponge at the bottom of his incubator to keep the humidity up a little bit. It's seemed to help when comparing the incubated jars to non-incubated jars. Ivan dunno how your incubator(bin) is set up. What is your heat source, if any?

When someones jars appear dry, they flip them over like most people recommend for other reasons, as you said you have tried - this makes water(condensation?) appear on the bottom (now on top) of the jars and drip down the sides into the vermiculite barrier. The jars arent filled completely up to the top so it allows for a small gap on the top of a flipped jar.

From what someone has read many times here, it's not recommended to inject any water or anything into the jars at this time, although it has been done -- probably numerous times. This tek can introduce contaminates.
