Legit SGFC stand 1

I'm going to try to keep this as simple and streamline as possible.
Tools needed;
Drill
Skill saw ( if you choose to do your own cutting, along with a construction pencil) Lowes or home depot can cut your wood for like 25 cents a cut
Tape measure
3/32 Drill bit (not absolutely necessary, but will make your life a whole lot easier in this process)
A square
Das it, maing.
Materials needed; This can be done with 3x 2x4x8s. I would get 4 just in case. 2x 2x4 cut to 8"
2x 2x4 cut to 14 3/4"
2x 2x4 cut to 14"
2x 2x4 cut to 17 3/4"
Piece of 1" plywood cut to 11 by 17 3/4 "
Piece of 1" plywood cut to 7 5/8" 14 3/4 "
(Lowes sells small sheets of 1" plywood for around 7 bucks. You can get both these cuts out of one.)
4x 2x4 cut to 29 inches. Give about 3 inches and this is the height of you SGFC. This is your own personal preference. I like mine at 29"
4x caster wheels The better caster wheels you get, the better your sgfc stand will roll. I got the cheapest ones at 6 $ for 4 and mine rolls fine.
Small box of 2.5" drywall screws
Small box of 1 3/4" drywall screws
Das it, maing.
Total cost of material is around 25-40 bucks.
Construction process Get your square ready. Line up your 8" and 14 3/4" pieces of 2x4 like so.
Drill your pilot holes and put two 2.5 inch screws in each end. This part is the biggest pain in the ass of the whole operation. Get this part out of your way and the rest is smooth sailing. Most importantly, KEEP YOUR SHIT SQUARE!
Once your set and nice and square with your caster screwed down, take your 7 5/8 x 14 3/4 piece of plywood and screw it to the top of it, like so...
Flip the caster over and get a 2x4 and set it on the long length end. Flush your 11" by 17 3/4" piece of plywood to it and screw it down with your smaller screws. I had an extra 1x8 laying around so I cut it to make it work.
Yours should look like this ( but with no seam )
Flip it back over and get your 29" ( or what ever length you chose ) ready. Flush them up to the outer edges of the caster, like so.
Drill 2 pilot holes and screw it down. Do the rest the same
Get your tape and measure down from the top of your legs about 10" Pop a line on all of your legs.
Flip it on its side. Get your 2x4 cut to 17 3/4 and flush it up.
Drill two pilot holes in each end.
Screw it down with your 2.5 " screws.
Do the same to the other side. Get your 2x4 cut to 14"" and flush it up. Drill your pilot holes.
Screw it down. Not to tight, you risk the chance of cracking your 2x4s.
Flip it around and line your other piece of 2x4 cut to 14" up and screw it down to one side. The other side might be a little off. You did not cut a piece wrong, this is just showing you how far out of square you are. You probably shouldn't be far out, if at all.
With some help, get it pulled back to where it needs to be, and screw it down. Flip the whole upside down. Flush your caster wheels about 1/4 of an inch away from each edges and screw them down with your 1 3/4 " screws.

JUST SNUG THEM!!! Once they are tight, back off. You can crack the wood or strip them out easy.
This stand will fit either 105 quarts ( the ones I like to use )
 As well a 66 quart sgfc's
 Nicely
Throw some foil on the ends of your legs to keep them out of direct moisture.
There are other things you can do, like paint the stand. You could also cut some pvc to fit to the end of each leg and screw them down. enjoy

Thanks man! It seems my sgfc's perform better when elevated at least a few feet off the ground.

In my experience, the further away from the ground the better. Bacteria tends be on the floor, in the carpet, etc.. A stand like this really does help. I built mine over a year ago and I love it.

The cut end of the legs is exposed to moisture from the terrarium.

Most of the moisture and air flow is directed upwards. You can pretty much put the 2x4 legs in between the 2" gap of your sgfc holes anyways. I have been using non painted stands for around a year with no issue.

or just do this
You could even go as far as screwing some cut pieces of pvc to the tops of your legs if you really wanted to.

Just stack 2 or three milk crates high, they allow airflow and they're free.

If that's what you do then more power to ya. I like these because they fit my 5 quart trays underneath.I can add towel hangers on it and hang my spray bottles on the side. When I go to sleep i roll it out my room because I like to sleep with the fans on. You can't roll milk crates. I just like this setup.

Good tek, i use a stackable polycarbon shelf with grated shelves for better airflow, i simply set my sgfc's on jar lids to make sure none of my sgfc's bottum holes are covered by the grates.
