Any idea where one can get a good CHEAP pressure cooker?
    #2069900 - 11/04/03 09:25 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Does anyone know where you can pick up a cheap pressure cooker that will hold quart jars. I looked at wal-mart and they never have the size large enough to hold quart jars in stock. Plus the size below that only holds pint jars. I'm looking to do some popcorn jars and was hoping to use quarts but I can't find a proper cooker. Help!!!

All the Wal-Mart Supercenters that I have seen have had a large variety of cookers. I bought at small one that I can just fit 3 pint jars in.

try Goodwill or other thrift stores. I went to the one closest to my house, first try I found a small but decent sized cooker for $10. And since it pressure cookers work in a certain way, they will give a you short return period as well, so you can go home and make sure it works. My pressure cooker fit about 10 1/2-pint jars in it stacked. Or try ebay. But I guess you are looking for a much bigger cooker

Wally World carries just about everything you need, PC's, incubator tubs, fruiting chambers, aquarium heaters, blah, blah, blah, everything, almost.

i own a small one (a 4 quart i think) it fits 5 1/2 pint jars at a time, i got at wal-mart for $17.99 like 3 months ago. it only goes to 15psi though, and i hear that is a little low for high elevations. i just said fuck it, and cook my jars for longer.

good luck.

EDIT: i got off my ass and just checked. its a 6 quart.

A craftsman is only as good as his tools , lol .

If you are serious about this hobby , save up for an AA . They are the best , and biggest .

An AA 941 will do 17 quarts at a time . And that's quarts , not 34 half pints , lol .

I got mine on E-Bay for $175 including shipping . Just keep looking for them . Might take a little bit but well worth it .

The one at walmart, $29.95 or somethin like that. It's made by presto, it does 15 psi and fits 4 pint jars or 4 half pints and two pints (or 6 half pints)
