Birth or patch and wait? ~pic~
    #2068260 - 11/03/03 03:20 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I have a rather small casing and was wondering if I should throw it in the fruiting chamber or patch it and let the rest of the casing catch up. I believe the spots with mycelium are the same areas I patched yesterday. In spots where white mycelium is not apparent, it can be seen just under the verm layer.

BTW - I have a thin bottom layer of verm, about 1-2 inches of colonized popcorn, and then another thin layer of verm on top of that.

Some will say wait, and some will say fruit now. If the myc. is basically @ the surface of the entire casing, you should probably fruit now. Wait for further, likely inevitable opinions.

Give the Mycelium a few days to catch up, dont bother patching.
Watch for overlay.

i'd patch again, thinly. just under the surface is right where you want it, so i'd fruit it straight after the patch, and not wait to reincubate it

patching is placing a thin layer of casing material over the first few "patches" of myc to break thru the casing layer, giving the rest of the casing surface time to catch up.
it premotes a more even pinset and helps to prevent overlay.
