Help! Incubator Temperature
    #2065878 - 11/02/03 06:26 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I'm trying to figure out what temperature I need to get my incubator. From the literature I have read it is 80 degrees F. Is this correct? What do you guys keep your incubators at?

For colonization? I got mine at 85... most people are going to say 84-86. This is my first grow and they seem like they do good at 85.

86 is optimum but you have to consider that the jars substrate will create it's own heat along with the jars so some say 80 is better, assuming it's 6 degrees hotter inside your jars. Whatever works best, try experimenting.

Okay, I've got it up to 85.5. That sound good to everyone for colonization?

Stamets says cubensis mycellium optimal colonization temp is at 86F.

You are right on track.

86 is optimal but your jars will probably be 1 or 2 degrees higher than than the surrounding air. also remember that every degree over 86 degrees slows growth significantly more than being under 86. therefore i keep my incubation chamber at 82-83`f.

When I saw that temp graph he made, I always wondered if Stamets took care of biological heating when he said 86F was optimal.

I guess he just grew some rhizomorphic mycellium on agar, then put the petri dishes in different environnement ranging from 60F to 106F and calculated the growth.

So my guess is that optimal growth temp is around 88F (including biological heating) so if you ask your incubator to give 86F, it's gonna be perfect.

But now i'm thinking that a small piece of mycellium on agar won't produce a lot of heat compared to a quart jar of grain almost fully colonized so the adjustment becomes hard to make.

fuck this crap, set your incubator at 84F and it will work anyway.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
